This is essentially a very poor man's version of The Apprentice. I realise that may not sound enticing, but there's something odd in the mixture of comedy, tragedy and sun-drenched retail parks outside Derby that's hard to resist. The idea is to set eight obligingly self-dramatising salespeople against each other over six weeks of tasks, starting with a furniture superstore, where they have a bank-holiday weekend to outdo each other in flogging beige sofa suites. The contestants aren't exactly shrinking violets. ("Sex appeal sells and I've got loads of it," admits Thea modestly.) But there's the sense that the series enjoys mocking its subjects a bit too much, especially given that several of them seem on the fragile side. But there are still laugh-out-loud moments, as when cocky Scott tries to storm off in a huff but stalls his car. The trouble is, it all feels very, very cheap.
