One in four commuters has faeces bacteria

One in four commuters has bacteria from faeces on their hands, claims a new report.
A study by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine tested 409 people on public transport across England and Wales.
The bacteria indicated that the people had not washed their hands properly after visiting the toilet.
In Newcastle 53% of men were found to be contaminated, while 36% of women also carried bacteria. In Liverpool it was 36% of men compared to 31% of women.
In London, Cardiff and Birmingham, women were worse offenders.
"We were flabbergasted by the finding that so many people had faecal bugs on their hands," Dr. Val Curtis told the BBC.
"The figures were far higher than we had anticipated, and suggest that there is a real problem with people washing their hands in the UK.
"If any of these people had been suffering from a diarrhoeal disease, the potential for it to be passed around would be greatly increased by their failure to wash their hands after going to the toilet."
