X Factor's Ruth Lorenzo's low vote due to phone blunder
A phoneline blunder almost cost singer Ruth Lorenzo her place on X Factor.

The sultry Spaniard found herself in the bottom two on Saturday after her voting number was shown with a digit missing.

Ruth, 25 – regarded as one of the favourites – was forced into a sing-off with rivals Girlband before going through to the next round.

Last night her friends and family were furious over the mix-up, which meant that at one stage viewers were given the wrong number to vote for her – and many fans couldn’t get through.

Ruth’s mum Eva said: “We tried for an hour and a quarter, but the lines were busy all the time.

“Then we suddenly realised the number shown on TV was wrong.”

An X Factor spokeswoman yesterday tried to play down the significance of the mistake.

She said: “During one short sequence, a single digit was missing from Ruth Lorenzo’s vote number.

“The incorrect number, was on screen for less than three seconds, and this was accompanied by an audio announcement giving the correct number.

“The error would not have changed the outcome of the vote.”

Dont think it would made that much of a difference really... the numbers go up a lot. And it was only up for 3 seconds.

It might have. I always remember, Jemini on Eurovision 2003 for the UK (the nil points ppl) they're number had a digit covered by a graphic on screen. Mind you, people probably didn't vote for them because they were ****.

Loukas 23-10-2008 08:44 AM

Yeah i agree with Tom, It wouldnt of made much of a difference anyway!? But the point is it might of, which still is not fair. I am voting so much on Saturday for Ruth. She needs a fanbase.

Fom 23-10-2008 08:55 AM

Ruth should have a much stronger fan base after her performance of 'Purple rain'

Loukas 23-10-2008 09:03 AM

Agreed it was fantastic. Her best performance by FAR. But you can never be to sure, Ruth fans have to vote if they want to see her in next’s weeks show. DANIEL HAS TO BE OUT!! He literally has NO chance of winning, Sorry but you shouldn't vote for just a person’s personality. Daniel NEEDS to leave, sorry!

NettoSuperstar! 23-10-2008 10:15 AM

I'll be very suprised if shes in bottom 2 this week

robb 23-10-2008 11:17 AM

I don't think it would have made THAT much difference either......tho had she been bottom with the viewing vote and THEREFORE OUT (cheers for that, Mr. Cowell), it would have kicked up an awful stink for ITV!!
True, she needs a fanbase, and QUICK, because there's no girlband there on Saturday, and Ruth Could be up against Rachel Or Daniel in a sing-off, and that could be fatal.................. so make sure you Vote For Ruth!!

GiRTh 23-10-2008 11:18 AM

Not another phone scandal.

I think she'll be OK this week but I fear she may be in the bottom two in two or three weeks time.

Princess 23-10-2008 11:20 AM

'Purple Rain' should have helped her. Daniel should go this week.

Annie 23-10-2008 11:22 AM

I dont think this would have made much difference if one of the showings of the telephone number had a digit missing or not. Most people who would have been voting would have already taken it down would they not?

I hope Ruth doesn't go this week. I really like her voice when she sings, she has such power.

Daniel I cannot stand, but I know a lot of maturer voters love him

and Rachel. She has disappointed me the most. At this moment in time I would like to see her go, unless she pulls out her finger and gives an excellent performance.

If it was only shown once for three seconds with a correct voiceover, its not as though its going to drastically effect the outcome when the numbers are shown a few times during the first show, throughout Xtra Factor, throughout Family Fortunes and shown in the first part of the results show.
