Then put him straight, he is being unfair to you and making it harder for you to move on. Your right in saying he wants his cake and eat it but the best advice I cant give you is dont let him

Is there a chance you could completely cut him out your life? Easier said than done, I know.

I mean blocking his number from texting you, and deleting him from facebook/msn. It seems harsh, but your top priority at the moment is you, and getting over him!
You can't get over something if it's in your face constantly.

Don't let yourself be used, or be a fall-back option for him. You're worth more

i know that is the best thing to do,i considered it as soon as we broke up as i was angry but as usual he brought me round to the talking stage. One minute he`ll be talking about having a family together and the how he will always love me blah blah blah then when he knows he`s got me thinking about him again he`ll just ignore me.I know exactly what hes doing ,after so long i can read him like a book but theres obviously something stopping me from making the big move and getting rid of him totally ,i just wish i knew what it was

Yeah, but once you do it you can't go back on it - and then from then on it's you rebuilding your life.

I can totally understand what you mean, 4 years - it's hardly an easy thing to do, but once it's done it's done and you can get on with getting over him.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do
