\'Portu-geezer\' Nadia wins Big Brother
RUSSELL JACKSON
AFTER 71 days, the latest and most controversial series to date of the reality television show, Big Brother, disgorged its winning contestant in to the limelight last night - a 27-year-old Portuguese transsexual. The show, the fifth in the series which pits members of the public with often violently conflicting characters together within the confines of an Orwellian, camera-monitored house, has attracted up to six million viewers. The winner, Nadia Almada, a transsexual bank clerk from Surrey, beat Jason Cowan, a refuse collector and nude model from Lanarkshire, into second place along with 11 other contestants who originally set out in the house. She claims a £63,500 prize. With her squawking voice and grating laugh, Almada had seemed unlikely to endear herself to the British public, but became the 50-1 on favourite for victory.
