X Factor spotlight on Eoghan's trip home
Eoghan Quigg's parents are calling on people across the Province to vote for their son on X Factor tonight.

And the town of Dungiven will be seen by audiences across the UK as a film is aired of the teenage singing sensation jetting home midweek.

The Co Londonderry teenager faced a barrage of cameras as his music mentor Simon Cowell released him from rehearsals to have a tearful reunion with his family and new baby sister Chrissie Mia.

Although it was all a bit “hectic”, delighted dad Chrissie said, the family was over the moon at seeing their chart-topping son on home soil, even if it was only for an hour.

“It was fantastic to have got Eoghan back home,” said Chrissie.

All the remaining X Factor finalists were treated to flying visits back to family and friends this week, with TV crews capturing the reunions on film.

Chrissie said Eoghan’s mum Denise and two brothers Calum and Dylan – who got an early break from school to see their brother – were delighted the family was reunited.

Eoghan’s visit, during which he met his new baby sister, will be shown on UTV tonight.

“Eoghan thought she was so tottie, so tiny, he was over the moon,” Chrissie said, explaining that his son brought the family a photo of him singing last week on the show, paying tribute to their support and guidance.

The latest addition to the Quigg family – named after her dad and grandmother Mary – was born last week in Londonderry’s Altnagelvin Hospital.

As for Eoghan and his chances of winning the coveted X Factor recording contract, both Chrissie and Denise believe their eldest son can do it.

“Can he win the X Factor? Definitely. I think he’s good enough vocally but the people need to support him and stay behind him,” said 36-year-old Chrissie.

“It’s a massive opportunity for Ireland – for a wee 16-year-old from Dungiven to win this – but the voting has to be stepped up.

“We haven’t seen a bad performance from Eoghan yet. The only criticism he’s had was about his hair, which has a name of its own now – the Bird’s Nest!”

Meanwhile yesterday, hairdressing salons across the Province are reporting increasing numbers of requests from teenage boys to have their hair cut in a ‘Quiggy’ style – created by hairdresser Bridgeen McCullough from Feeny – just like Eoghan’s.
