At the busy animal hospital of Leopard’s Den, newly-widowed Danny Trevanion (Stephen Tompkinson) is battling to keep
his family and business together after the tragic death of his wife.


The custody courts are threatening to
send stepson Evan (Luke Ward-Wilkinson) back to his father in Britain, while daughter Rosie, played by Lucy-Jo Hudson, faces
tough decisions over her future as a vet and
her partnership with fiancé Max (Martinus
Van Der Berg).


Dawn Steele (Monarch Of The Glen) joins the cast as feisty vet Alice Collins, who has been working as a locum in South Africa and arrives with her young daughter Charlotte in tow. Although Danny needs a new vet to work alongside him in the hospital, he gradually realises that, in Alice, he’s taken on more than he bargained for.


And Juliet Mills joins the cast as Georgina, who’s sent to take care of the irascible Du Plessis (Deon Stewardson) while her sister Caroline remains in the UK with her granddaughter. But Georgina is contemptuous of what she considers the “scruffy” game reserve, and is antagonistic towards Du Plessis from the start.


During the 10-part series, the family find themselves not only running their own reserve and hospital, but also sorting out problems at neighbouring Mara, which has fallen into disrepair after going into receivership, putting the lives of its animals in danger. So Danny is relieved when the reserve is bought by Vanessa (Mary-Anne Barlow), a glamorous South African businesswoman who intends to restore the place to its former glory. However, when Vanessa takes a shine to Danny, she discovers that she has competition for his affections.
