Timmy Mallet's Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny secret... he did NOT sing lead vocal on hit track
Timmy Mallet did not sing the main vocal on his famous hit Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, it has been claimed.

Instead it was sung by a teacher called Everton Barnes who confessed he recorded the lead vocal.

The 45-year-old, a budding R&B vocalist at the time, said Wacaday presenter Mallet, 53, was unable to hit the notes.

And Everton says he was too embarrassed to take the credit for the song at the time.

Everton said: 'The producers decided Timmy was the perfect bloke to do the vocals as he was all the rage.

'But when they got him into the studio they realised his voice was as flat as a punctured pancake. There was no way the record company could release it as it was.'

Everton said producers Nigel Wright and Les McCutcheon asked him to help out.

He added: 'I sang the whole vocal track and Timmy was shunted into the background.

'I didn't want anybody to know as it was a bit embarrassing and I still had ambitions in the music business.'

Mallet's band Bombalurina topped the charts for three weeks with the cover of the 1960 hit, sung by Brian Hyland.

But Everton, who is now a deputy year head in Luton, Bedfordshire, made less than £5,000 in royalties.

He said: 'I've decided to speak out as I feel it's a great shame Timmy is going around singing the song when he knows it's not his voice on it.

It was even my idea to insert the "Oh yeahs" and now Timmy is going around shouting "Oh yeah" in the jungle as if it was all down to him.'
