The 56-year-old is said to fear that his row with Dannii Minogue last week could result in his dismissal at the end of the series.

"He wouldn't be surprised if Dannii stays and he goes. He's sure it's got to be one of them," a source told The Mirror.

"Louis is worried about next year. He denies he bullied Dannii, but admits they'll never be able to get on."

The insider added: "He knows that Simon [Cowell] and Cheryl [Cole] are the only two whose seats on the panel are assured. He is well aware the rest are indispensable."

Walsh's final act JLS made it through to the semi-final on last night's show, while Minogue's last singer Ruth Lorenzo was voted off by the public.

It seems Louis is sharper than he lets on. He's got good reason to be worried if I was Simon Cowell I'd already be thinking about how I could make him resign instead of firing him.
