Martina Navratilova loses her winning ways as she comes second in I\'m A Celebrity
Quote:
Martina Navratilova loses her winning ways as she comes second in I'm A Celebrity She's the greatest tennis player of all time, and Martina Navratilova's competiveness and taste for fairness stood her in good stead in the jungle.
But when it came down to the final match she was beaten to the title of Queen Of The Jungle by 26-year-old Londoner Joe Swash.
But Martina wasn't upset at missing out. ''I'm happy for Joe, really,' she said. 'You can't compete with EastEnders!'
The 52-year-old said her time in the jungle was very educational.
'I learnt that I can adjust pretty well to just about any situation, and that I can go into a room full of people and just make friends,' she said.
'I was aways very shy and I'm not a mingler. Here we were all in the same boat.'
Earlier in the day eventual winner Joe had named Martina Superwoman and called her the champion of the camp. He said she was an unsung hero, kind, affectionate, beautiful – a true champion.
During her three weeks in Australia Martina had shown her determination and nerve as she triumphed in bushtucker trials.
Her final day was no exception as Martina found herself in a trial called Fill Your Face, hoping to win desert for the finalists.
She put her face into a large glass helmet, which was then filled with grasshoppers, cockroaches and two snakes.
Martina barely moved a muscle as fifty grasshoppers were poured over her head and face. 'Piece of cake so far,’ she said to Ant and Dec.
She closed her eyes tight when hundreds of cockroaches and borrowing cockroaches joined her.
The crawling insects wriggled into her ears, nose and down her chest. Stick insects crawled over her followed by huntsman and orb spiders.
The last container to win her the fifth star held two snakes which stirred up the cockroaches when put into her helmet.
But Martina withstood all the critters and won the five stars for the final supper.
Shaking herself off she jubilantly said to Ant and Dec: ‘I did it! They were biting me and they bit my nose and made me cry.’
