Call a local vet tell them whats happened they will tell you what to do

Hugo 12-12-2008 06:28 PM

Well there isn't much you can do  Try and put some bandage around it but don't touch it too much or you could hurt him.
Wait untill tomorrow and take him to the vets.

Ninastar 12-12-2008 06:36 PM

Sometimes they do!

Important thing to do here Ninostar is keep your cat indoors for the rest of tonight.
Keep that wound clean and protected a colar (even made of cardboard will be sufficient as a tempory measure) around the cats neck, will stop him/her scratching the wound.
It should heal ok, if kept clean for a few days, otherwise take your cat to a vet if there is no improvement by Monday (before that if you or your familly are worried)

And good luck, try not to get to worried around the cat too, they can and will detect panick and your cat needs plenty TLC.
Good luck and hope your cat gets well soon

Hope he's ok! Deffo don't take him to ER anyways-Friday night=loads of drunk people.

Angie's advice sounds pretty good.

Spike 12-12-2008 07:49 PM

Just keep an eye on your cat tonight, keep it inside and the ears clean
and then take it to the vets tomorrow

Princess 12-12-2008 08:53 PM

He won't need to be put down. They only do that if animals are in really bad pain and they don't want them to suffer anymore. He'l probably just need stitches.

supernoodles! 12-12-2008 08:55 PM

aww poor cat:sad:

Just keep him indoors tonight and don`t touch his ears but keep an eye on him.Theres nothing you can do til the morning so try not to panic, see how he is in the morning and to be on the safe side maybe you can take him to be checked over.Im sure he`ll be fine so don`t worry.

Ninastar 17-12-2008 12:11 PM

Ok well my cats alright now but his ear really really stinks. It looks all googey. were going to the vet tonight for an injection so we'll ask about it there anyway. I think he might has to be put unde ranesthetics and have it cleaned or stitched or something cause right noe it looks a mess :bawling:

They'll be unlikely to put him under anaesthetic Nino, because it's a superficial wound.

They'll give him an antibiotic injection to ensure it doesn't get infected, then they'll just advise you to keep it clean, which I see you have been doing.

Don't worry too much. All my cats have had ear rips. It seems to be the most common injury in a cat. But, remember it's only skin really, so it can't do any fatal harm having a torn ear.

When I was little, my cat had only half an ear. He was always fighting with other cats.

It doesn't seem to be as bad as we think it is though, cuz the cat's never seem to panic, but we do, cuz we see the blood.

Let us know how it goes. Hope yer kitty feels better soon. Xx

lily. 17-12-2008 12:51 PM

Thing is.. they only knock them out if they really have to, cuz anaesthetics carry risks too, especially in older animals. So, if they can fix him up without knockin him out, then they'll do it that way.

Cats are really resillient. They can have a really awful looking injury, but don't seem to be bothered by it.

lily. 17-12-2008 01:05 PM

The smell may indicate that it's infected, but that's nothing to panic about either. An antibiotic injection in the scruff of his neck will take care of that.

Anytime my cats have been injured and had to visit the vet, they give an antibiotic injection anyway, cuz it's common for infections to set in.

But, he'll be right as rain by Christmas. :D

lily. 17-12-2008 06:22 PM

Glad yer all sorted out now..

If there's one thing I know about, it's moggies.. haha
