How come... [MODS READ]

Members are allowed to speak in French on here where as speaking in Welsh is banned?

Matt08 13-12-2008 02:34 PM

Since when have members been able to speak in French? I'm sure the admins have said in the past that the only language that is acceptable to post is English.

Look at the French Thread.
Rule break then. Not all of us can understand French.

Yeah but the Welsh thread was deleted.

Hugo 13-12-2008 02:46 PM

Oh, I never knew there was a Welsh thread.

Captain.Remy 13-12-2008 02:56 PM

If the mods didn't ban it then they must have their reason.
If you take a look at it now, you'll see we mostly speak English in it.

well said:thumbs:

and neither is capitals, or "text speak" for reasons of breaking the flow of the forum, so why is the french language now allowed?
surely this mumbo jumbo un intelligable waffle qualifies just as much as the banned forms of writing.

edit, I've reported the thread, I suggest everyone who feels the same do likewise before the forum turns into a gobledegook daily read

I think the difference is that (correct me if I'm wrong!) people posting in the Welsh thread were speaking to each other exclusively, whereas the French thread is more information based.

Or because there are 2 French speaking people there while there's a lot of Welsh.
I honestly don't know guys.

Good question Callum, Welsh should be aloud in translated in English.

MR.K! 13-12-2008 03:29 PM

mabe because we all speak english, and french is pretty much the second world language, taught in brittish schools ?

andyman 13-12-2008 03:34 PM

Ciao! Learn italian not french!

Mark 13-12-2008 03:47 PM

From what I see of the French thread, it's more of an learning thread with members explaining grammer and tense.

The welsh thread was made as a general chit chat thread, and that's why it was closed. If the french thread turns in that direction it will probably be closed too, but while it's more informative and intellectual it'll stay open.

I personally was under the impression that any post in another language had to be translated in the same post.

Which is what I did in my season seven of my Mystical Realms stories where I had the episode titles in Latin.

I believe I had a character speak in French at one point, and although there was no translation it was obvious he was asking for a lite for a ciggarette.

andyman 14-12-2008 05:59 AM

Changes! No warnings gone! Fave CBB thingy gone! :puzzled:

James 14-12-2008 06:28 AM

Just a minor cosmetic change... no need to show no warnings message if you don't actually have any warnings. The warning system hasn't changed, not yet anyway.

Don't know what you mean? All the favs that were shown next to posts are still there, unless I've missed something?

andyman 14-12-2008 06:46 AM

No the fave cbb fave dont show, oh well its ok because only 3weeks then its a new cbb.

James 14-12-2008 07:21 AM

Do you mean Celebrity Hijack? I removed that a while ago. If you have a favourite housemate selected it will still be shown in your profile.

Noo, not everyone learns it. I learn German and Spanish. And French isn't one of the second world languages, German and Spanish is more spoken than French.

Spanish yes, German, no way. German is only spoken in Germany and some countries around.
French is an official language in 29 countries: Democratic Republic of the Congo, France , Canada, Madagascar, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, Mali, Belgium, Guinea, Rwanda, Chad, Haiti, Burundi, Benin, Switzerland, Togo, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Djibouti, Luxembourg, Vanuatu, Seychelles and Monaco.
