TiBB Becoming A Dictatorship

Not only are they deleting fun threads, they are now deleting threads complaing about posts being edited and deleted.

Can we not express our views, its a bit pathetic tbh.

DamonJ 14-12-2008 01:20 PM

The only reason I hate TiBB is it is such a formal forum if you like, you cannot have real fun or step one foot out of line, everything has to be perfect & in order.

I love forums where you can spam, swear, insult etc. And surprisingly they are the forums which work best.

On TiBB it's like Mark & mods are standing above you ready to crack the whip for typing in capitals. :nono:

I know, someones post was deleted because he said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY'.

It's a tad dum.

MarkWaldorf 14-12-2008 01:26 PM

Well it's an internet forum, you shouldn't take it so seriously.

But I do agree. Even if there's a few word in capitals, or capitals used for empthasis on excitement or something, they'll warn you that it needs to be corrected. And the whole thing with threads ALWAYS being moved to Chat and Games! It's not needed.

Wow I really contradicted my first point lmao

Bells 14-12-2008 01:31 PM

I'm guessing you mean dictatorship.

Which fun threads have been deleted? Most tend to be moved to Chat & Games if they are seen as appropriate and are able to be moderated. Threads are moved into the subforums they fit best in - I don't think there's a problem with where it is, as long as people can access it and can understand why it's in there. I don't see why threads would be deleted without good reason. Excessive spamming/swearing/insults don't really work on a form of this size, particularly because its aim is to discuss TV shows (although mainly BB of course), and it usually depends on the kind of forum.

As for the typing in capitals: normally only when posts are reported are we able to monitor absolutely everything, but it still helps a great deal if you do stick to the rules. I would imagine that the 'happy birthday' post was deleted because it didn't really contribute to that particular thread (it could have been serious, for example), rather than it being in a birthday thread. Just a guess.

Of course you can express your views, but rather than complaining (which doesn't normally get us anywhere), if you have an issue with how some of your posts are being edited etc., why not just send a U2U? Much more useful, and keeps issues like this off the forum too where it isn't really necessary for everyone to discuss a private problem.

And if you tell an admin about a problem, or a suggestion, chances are nothing will be done about it, whereas if the minority of members agree there's more of a chance of something being done.

exactally.
What annoys me most is they are even deleting threads which are asking to stop this. I mean, thats like making the forum seem perfect, as any complaints are allowed!

I know! It seems TiBB are more concerned about their perfect image than what their members would like & what needs to be done.

Bells 14-12-2008 01:43 PM

If a lot of you are unhappy about posts being edited, we'll have to review the rules then and discuss what the problem exactly is. I don't think it'd be done without good reason. Maybe the issue is that all of this is seeping into normal discussion threads rather than purely Chat & Games threads.

But making bold statements such as "TiBB becoming a dictatorship" really isn't going to get us anywhere. Saying stuff like, not only are "they" etc. I wasn't even aware you were having problems, so making sweeping comments like that doesn't help at all. We generally try our best to moderate this forum as we do it purely to help things run smoothly. As I said, you can definitely express your views and we'll try our best to accommodate them if they're justified, but just labelling the whole thing as pathetic is a little ungrateful and unfair. This place is nowhere near perfect as we can only moderate what's brought to our attention, but it just genuinely helps if you do stick to the rules. Seems pretty logical to me.

Now that I know of this problem (i.e. with editing/deleting threads), I'll bring it up and see if we can come to some sort of compromise. Before you say "nothing's done" etc., have you even sent U2Us about what the problems may be? Magic, you say it's not a private problem, but if the people bothered by actually using that method, chances are it'll be a lot more effective. :)

Id quite like to know where General Chat ends, and Chat + Games begins?

That's a really good point, and something I think we will definitely review and probably clarify. It can get a bit confusing as it seems to be a very thin line at the moment.

Sorry, tbh I have to admit its more the work of one moderator, (who I dont have a problem with). They even edited one of Mark's posts. It seems now you cant have a chat (In Chat and Games!) without seeing the thread edited!

I have reported edited posts before, and asked why.

I think it goes like this:

General Chat is for discussions about things that don't fit into other forums, or for discussions that have a point

Chat & Games is for completely off-topic discussion ("Hi", "How was your day" etc) and obviously for games.

But I'm not 100% sure.

It is a bit odd if Chat & Games posts are being edited, I have to agree.

I think I might post some sort of sticky in Chat & Games specifying that, as those seem to be the guidelines we follow at the moment.

General Chat may be a better place to make it, as thats where the majority of threads are moved from.

I agree, sometimes people post crap by dozens. I'm glad some threads are deleted. I wish the mods could delete some members too lol
