Damm lol.

How hot is it getting?

It could be a thermal cut out in the power supply.

Oh my god - since I first got it - it gets red hot on the bottom! Even when the fan is on - my brother has the same laptop and his isn't as hot. :(

Hugo 16-12-2008 09:52 PM

What laptop is it for it might be the same as mine.

Omg this happend to me just yesterday so i turned it off. flipped it upside down, took the battery, got a fine brush and brushed all the technical bits free from any dust. so basically i just gave it a little clean down to make sure all the connections were working. when i plugged it back in it worked fine.

Sorry I got a bit confused people were talking about chargers.... so it's the computer that is going on and off and it's running hot.

I had that problem with an expensive HP machine, it overheated after a few hours of playing the "The Sims 2" and would shut itself down. I had to leave it to cool before I use it again. If I didn't it would just run for 15 minutes or so and shutdown again.

I went to the support site in the end and found a BIOS patch that changed how the fans worked and since then it has stopped switching itself off, although it does get very hot but processor never reaches the shut down temperature.

That happens to mine too - so I'm sort of having two problems - this and my charger. With the charger - it keeps going of and on and now my battery is really low.

Well - you said yours was Dell. Mine is a really crappy one by a company called Esystem.

Keep very carful where you have it and how hot it gets. My dad was telling me about this boy that left his laptop constently on charge and on the sofa, they went out and they had no house when they came back, it burnt down. Do you keep pulling the charger in and out? Do you lean on the charger? That broke my olf lappy!

Jen 16-12-2008 10:04 PM

Mine keeps turning itself off...
I have no idea whats going on...
:(

Burned groin blamed on laptop
A Swedish scientist who rested his laptop computer on his lap for just an hour needed medical treatment for extensive blistering.

A concerned doctor wrote to The Lancet medical journal after encountering the distressed patient.

He is warning the public of the potential dangers of using a laptop "in the literal sense".

The 50-year-old father-of-two used the laptop machine, of unknown origin, to write a report while sitting in an armchair.

Dr Claes-Goran Ostenson, from Sweden's Karolinska Institute, told the journal: "He had placed his laptop computer on his lap while writing for about one hour.

"The next day he noticed irritation."

Infection

The irration of his penis and scrotum led to blisters, one with a diameter of 2cm.

Dr Ostenson said: "The patient recalled that, while sitting two days earlier with his computer on his lap, he occasionally had felt heat and a burning feeling on his lap and thigh."

Unfortunately for the victim, the blisters broke and developed into infected suppurating wounds.

The manual of the computer concerned told users not to allow the laptop to rest directly onto skin, warning: "With extended operation, heat can potentially build up in the base.

"Allowing sustained contact with the skin could cause discomfort or, eventually, a burn."

However, the patient in this case insisted he had been wearing both trousers and underpants at the time.

Omg at that BBC News report. I have a burn on my leg from my old laptop. And sometimes when I've had my laptop on my bed and then gone to bed - the bed has been really hot. That's worrying me now.

Loukas 16-12-2008 10:19 PM
