Nested quotes

OK, I know that the suggestions forum is in overdrive at the moment and that the admins are working on a site refresh, so please don't bite my head off for making another request.

Would it be possible for the admins to limit the amount of nested quotes possible to about 4 or 5 maximum after the new site is up? Posts with loads and loads of nested quotes are rather annoying.

In addition, is it possible to prevent images from being quoted in posts too as they can unnecessarily prolong a page's length, especially if there's loads of them.

Just a thought. :spin2:

Fat.Rat 05-01-2009 05:59 PM

defo about the pics, they do get really annoying!!!

Callum 05-01-2009 05:59 PM

Yeah I agree. I hate having to read through whole loads of quoted posts on a thread.

MrGaryy 05-01-2009 06:00 PM

I agree, it;s annoying when you are having a debate with someone in particular to have to scroll down loads to get to the new post.

[LMAO this has to be the most this sub forum has ever been used]

Jen 05-01-2009 06:00 PM

I disagree..

I love the pictures.

Nicky. 05-01-2009 06:00 PM

I second this ^.^

The quotes get pretty annoying after a while.. when your just scrolling down and seeing the same message over and over again .. and it gets thinner and more pointless xD

The pictures are really annoying, when someone has quoted them and there are a pile of pictures being re-posted loads xD

xx

I have no idea why some people cant just cut down on quotes when they are in a discussion. Good suggestions.

SiaSiaSia 05-01-2009 06:05 PM

On some other forums I've noticed you can only quote like, the comment. if you get me. :S which is good.

I tend to just delete the rest of the quoted posts and leave the latest one (when I'm in a discussion and there's been a lot of quoting going on). I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority with this though, but it only takes a few seconds and it saves myself and everyone else having to go through lots of quoted posts for just, say, a line at the bottom. It'd be so helpful if more people did the same and thought about what they were quoting I guess, but I don't know if they would. Such is life. It's a good suggestion otherwise.

I agree, I always cut down the quotes if I'm quoting a lot of posts, or just quote the post I'm replying to.

The pictures are annoying, especially in the Meet The Members thread. Someone'll post like.. 12 pictures and someone else will quote them all and reply with 'The second one's hot'. Seriously, why not just quote that one?

pinkmichk 05-01-2009 06:07 PM

great idea it anoys me as well esp with the pics

I do that too. :D

I'd say a maximum of 2 quotes. If it was one quote on some websites person 2 quotes person 1, then person 3 quotes person 2 but replies to person 1, then it looks a bit daft (and thats a little confusing :joker:) But if 2 quotes were allowed and person 3 quotes person 2 and there are two quotes, then its clear who is being replied to. Then if you bring person 4 into it who quotes person 3, person 1's quote is lost but you can still see 2&3 so know what they're on about. Does that make sense and are you still with me? :blush2:

kinda:conf::tongue:

On DS it deletes all the quotes but the last one automatically which is kinda handy.

AngRemembered 05-01-2009 08:29 PM

The DS version then as described by Laura sounds good, I agree to many quotes can be frustrating to keep up when joining a thread similar to the tibb awards thread.
Some of us are slow and old now

Spike 05-01-2009 08:44 PM

Its the images which are quoted which annoy me
I like the DS version but I don't know if it would work on here because we don't stay on topic as much so it would be confusing
