My sisters sprained ankle

Hey, i'm sure some of you will know that my sister has had a sprained ankle since New Years Eve. Anyway i'm getting really worried to be honest because it's been three weeks and her ankle still has some bruising on it and it's still hurting her. She's had a support put around it and it's still troubling her. The other problem is that she's had 2 weeks off from school now, and my mum thinks she's faking it (she's obviously not...but my mum is worried about her school stuff at the same time). I don't know what to do, should i suggest her going to the doctors or hospital? Or should i give it another week? But it is troubling her, and mum's making her go to school tomorrow :rolleyes:

Me personally, i don't think she's ready and she doesn't want to...but i don't know what to do

Any advice?

Can the school not send the work home for her to do?

Tell her to walk it off

I suppose, but how can you reason with someone who thinks they're "faking it"? They proberly wouldn't take anyone seriously apart from our parents...but mum won't ring them.

That's what i said at first :conf:, but if it's been longer than three weeks doesn't that mean it's a bit more serious?

Yeah it will be more then just sprained it cant be broken though she would know about it

maybe dislocated which would explain the bruising as well

She should go to the doctor's with it, then it'll show that she's not faking it.

IT could be a high ankle spain like some athletes get. I its a high ankle sprain, it could go on for more than 4 or 5 weeks. Its very slow healing. I had it when I was about 16, and it took me 6 weeks to be able to play football again.

High sprain? I didn't know there was one. What would you recommend for her? To rest or to keep it moving? Or anything really lol?

I honestly don't know. I've told her to..but i think she just presumed it'd get better on its own really...

Cnat do nothing but let it heel. BUt she should still go to school and stuff. Just immobilise it. Wear a cast and crutches. I was on crutches for 4 weeks. But I still went to school. I think I only took like 3 days off. Its better to move with it, but she should go to the hospital, get an Xray, and they will give you something to walk gingerly with.

this should help.

A bad sprain can take weeks to heal. I would still expect there to be bruising but it should be reducing now and not still coming out. If it is a bad sprain she really needs to be using it as much as she can to make sure the healing process is as quick as possible. If it has not been checked over by the hospital it might be worth a visit, however if it is a few weeks it is highly unlikely that they would cast it or anything, they may splint it but not crutches for a sprain.

Smal circular flexing exercises are helpful as are up and down on tip toes, as well as light tapping of the foot on the floor.

What a wonderful contribution to this forum you are. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that there has never been such a rational, enlightened and downright brilliant mind to grace a keyboard.

Unfortunately, I fear your pathetic chav of an exterior is too thick for the fact that I'M SARCASTIC to sink in. So, to be more direct, you suck.

How is she by the way?
