Coolio IS A Gangster
 

I hear some saying outright, and others alluding to him not being a real gangster. Believe me, HE IS! He grew up and teamed with gang bangers. He is not a joke. He is not joking around. So, enough with the postings making him out to be some harmless guy who's just playing this up.

And your proof is?

Coolio is from Compton in South Central Los Angeles so during his life he must have at some point been involved in gangs.

That's a generalisation. Not everyone in Compton is involved in gangs.

Probably, but apparently its the kind of area where theres little else to do. So if someone from Compton claims to be a gangster then I'd believe them.

I see your point G. And, I'm also not disputing his claims either. I just felt I'd put it out there because some people do think that everyone from these areas is some kind of badass gangsta, when there are a lot of decent people there too.

Also, I'd agree with Stu. Even if Coolio was a gangbanger in the past, that does not mean he indulges in gang activity or associates with current gang members now.

My intial comment was a generalization but I made it show that Coolio is who he says he is.

In Hip Hop gang affiliation is kind of like a badge of honour. Some rappers even claim to have been members of very specific real life gangs. So even if he no longer is actively involved in gang banging his past still gives him the right to call himself a gangster.

Yes he can call himself a gangster, but like you say could not be involved in gang activities. Therefore making this statement by the OP inaccurate:

Most teens grow up in gangs... A gang can be a group of thugs on a street corner or a group of adults part of a underground criminal network.
The area he grown up does have a problem with gangs on all levels. As in a "Gangster" there is a real type and the fantasy type, real type spend most of their life in prisons and the fantasy type live in huge houses with sports cars and naked women everywhere.
As for Coolio being in a gang or being a gangster.... Maybe, maybe not.
