No article yet but apparently it's on the news channels as I type.

That's awful, did anyone die?

MarkWaldorf 15-01-2009 08:00 PM

The wha?

My thoughts are with the people involved though! :(

It was a small plane and I don't know about casualties, there are apparently survivors "standing on the wings" though. And the Hudson River = NYC.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Emergency officials are responding to a downed plane in the Hudson River in New York City, according to the city fire and police departments.

US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 headed from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina, was down in the river after a failed takeoff, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The U.S. Coast Guard said units were also responding, and a ferry on site was dropping life jackets into the water.

The plane approached the water at a gradual angle and made a big splash, according to a witness watching from an office building.

"It wasn't going particularly fast. It was a slow contact with the water that it made," said the witness, Ben VonKlemperer.

An Airbus A320 can hold a maximum of 179 passengers and a flight crew of two, depending on the configuration.

That is remarkable. It looked so werid how they were all just standing on the winds chatting while the boats came.
Thanks God they all were ok.

Looks crazy! Only just put the news on due to watching American idol and BB.
Flicking between sky news and bbc news24 to get the latest..
New York+planes=nasty.

I felt so relieved that everyone who was on board the plane are fine.
My friend Sarah is going to New York soon and I had been on the phone to her for just under an hour, she is terrified and is already scared of plane journeys....

FBI have strongly denied it was a terror attack.
They have a theory that a flock of birds had collided with the plane as it took off...

Yup, they have be known to fly into engines, as there are quite a lot of birds tend to gather around airfields...

Its nothing to laugh about.
Its a very common problem when taking off in a plane in NY...the chances are very high that there would be a collision with birds... usually before a plane takes off the amount of birds can be ridiculous and they have to use police dogs to clear them from the runway and the surrounding area.

Oh I know that :)
Just, its unreal how many planes collide with birds most may not affect the plane but on an off chance something like today may happen, all down to pure chance I guess.
