Just wondering what people thought about it? Do you think it is real or fake?

The term "monster" was reportedly coined on 2 May 1933 by Alex Campbell, the water bailiff for Loch Ness and a part-time journalist, in a report in the Inverness Courier.[2][3]. On 4 August 1933, the Courier published as a full news item the claim of a London man, George Spicer, that a few weeks earlier while motoring around the Loch, he and his wife had seen "the nearest approach to a dragon or pre-historic animal that I have ever seen in my life," trundling across the road toward the Loch carrying "an animal" in its mouth.[4] Other letters began appearing in the Courier, often anonymously, with claims of land or water sightings, either on the writer's part or on the parts of family, acquaintances or stories they remembered being told.[5] These stories soon reached the national (and later the international) press, which talked of a "monster fish," "sea serpent," or "dragon,"[6] eventually settling on "Loch Ness Monster."[7] On 6 December 1933 the first purported photograph of the monster, taken by Hugh Gray, was published,[8] and shortly after the creature received official notice when the Secretary of State for Scotland ordered the police to prevent any attacks on it.[9] In 1934, interest was further sparked by what is known as The Surgeon's Photograph. In the same year R. T. Gould published a book,[10] the first of many which describe the author's personal investigation and collected record of additional reports pre-dating the summer of 1933. Other authors made claims that sightings of the monster went as far back as the 6th century (see below).

I think if it ever did exist, it died a very long time ago, but I don't think it does, no. Though that may be because I'm Scottish and hate it when I get asked by people about the Loch Ness Monster, ginger people, haggis, Scottish country dancing, caber tossing etc. :tongue:

If it did exist, which it very well could have done, it would almost certainly have died by now.. but on the other hand it could have never lived, and just be something someone dreamed up one day, then other people claimed to see it xD

Like Zee said if it did exist it would have died by now. I've always reckoned it was just an oversized Eel or something and people just exaggerated with it. That's if it wasn't made up totally.

Unless it's some mythical creature, it would be long gone by now. I don't think it's real, it could easily have been a very rare creature which someone assumed was a dragon. Whether it is real or not, it's become a legend in its own right.

But no, I definitely don't think it exists. When I was younger perhaps, it was more a case of I wanted it to; the same goes for the people who claimed to have seen something in the first place. I went to the museum and stuff years ago, and any photos that even partially resembled the monster were deemed fake. I don't get what some random dinosaur (which is essentially what it looks like)... or big newt?... would have been doing there anyway.

Also, it's not like we don't have the technology now for someone to have gone and investigated. Any interest involved in it now is just because people seem to like discussing the possibilities of fairy tale creatures etc., and the fact that this could be real (like Bigfoot) is what makes it exciting.

Loch Ness is not big enough to sustain such an animal. (Some have said it could be a Plesioaur)

A lot of the so called sightings have been logs, Sturgeons seals, boat wakes etc
