Mum let son smoke aged 3
 

A BOY of THREE was allowed to smoke by his mother, a shocked judge heard yesterday.
Kelly Pocock, 24, let the lad light up in his bedroom and around the house.

An astonished family friend saw him puff away while his mum was on the phone in the same room.

Worried Natasha Dudley, 25 — who said it looked like the youngster had been smoking for YEARS — used her mobile to film him.

She gave the footage to social workers who alerted cops. Pocock was arrested and charged with cruelty to a child under 16.

Judge John Curron said of the “appalling” case: “This is one of the most extraordinary I have ever come across.”

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees told how the friend had earlier looked for the youngster at the family’s home in Merthyr Vale, South Wales.

He said: “She found him under a bed with cigarettes. He was smoking one and Miss Dudley said it looked like he had been smoking for many years. When the boy was taken downstairs he went into the living room where he picked up a cigarette butt from an ashtray and smoked it.

“Pocock was on the telephone at the time so Miss Dudley decided to film the boy, such was her concern.”

Pocock claimed she had not noticed him — and was “shocked”.

But Judge Curron said the video proved her son knew how to use a lighter — and declared: “He would not have been able to smoke without discomfort unless he had acquired a habit.”

The tearful mum pleaded guilty and was given a suspended 40-week prison sentence at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court — plus a 12-month supervision order.

She was spared jail because her children would be “emotionally harmed”.

I don't see how she could have been so detached to not realise? When I started I only saw my dad for about 4 hours a day and my mum once every other weekend and they both knew

I smoke now at almost 15, but thats bad. My mum and dad both know,they don't let me, but they know.

Im 16 and I dont smoke, about 60% of my friends do, i think if I was to smoke i would have been smoking already, so im never going to touch a fag, Ive tried it once and dont like it.

I smoke, but I wish I didnt. These days you cant smoke and socialize, so you have to go outside or something!
I dont smoke a lot but I want to quit completely.

I mean I know people around where I live that are like 11 and smoking and I thought that itself was really bad!

Yeahh its lucky for me concidering every cousin I have (which is a LOT!!) my aunties and uncles all smoke. The only people that dont are my Mum and Dad (who quit together 7 years ago) and my sister who is 19 and did for about a year when she was 14 but doesnt anymore.

Yeahh when you smoke and your around people that dont, they find it difficult to socialise with you. If you really want to quite, start off my giving yourself little targets and take it one step at a time.

Do I look about twenty?! That's why I get into clubs. Omg, I wouldn't have said that myself.
I dress older as well.
But really, twenty? You learn something new everyday.

I find it weird if anyone below 16 is smoking, I know the age is 18, but to me its ok aslong as you are 16+ but if you see someone smoking in a school uniform its just wrong.
As for 3!! Thats beyond sick!

that poor excuse of a parent should be locked up and never aloud her child back shes obviously ****ed up.
