Thousands complain to the BBC - for dropping Carol Thatcher

(Edit: Oops, sorry for putting this in its own thread. I must have pressed 'Topic' rather than 'Reply'...) |
Thats odd, i thought it would be the other way.. That is odd given the Brand/Ross issue.
|
Thatll be alll the closet racists thinking theyre hard done by cos they cant call someone a golliwog for a laugh these days!

What she said was disgraceful but a sacking did seem a bit hash when some kind official warning or even a final warning and suspension would have been more the sort of thing that should have happened. After it wasn't broadcast on air! |
She shouldn't have been dropped
I can see why they would give her a warning but not why they would drop her The BBC are just scared of the slightest bit of controversy these day after the whole Ross and Brand thing Quote:
This time they wont act in the same way to Thatcher because the BBC have acted so there is nothing to complain about. Also the Daily Mail can be seen as a racist newspaper if you look at their articles and readers comments so they will probably support Thatcher and not the BBC |

Good I'm going to make one now, she should not have been dropped. The eavesdropper who leaked it to the press though I think they should have been dropped. It totally invades peoples privacy.

They must have some kind of disciplinary procedures, what are they and did they follow them? What happened? Like I said before if they gave her some kind of final warning, which she deserved, and told her she had to make an unconditional apology, and she refused then it would be clear why she was sacked. |
Lol couldnt see it happening !!!
ah well people do what they llike, id not complain about somthing unless it was a serious thing... She shouldnt have said it but i dont think she should have been fired over it. |
They wouldn't be able to win either way- if they hadn't dropped her straight away there would have been complaints anyway

I have been looking at some of the press on this and they, the press, have really confused the issue in how they have reported the story. And the BBC haven't done themselves any favors in how they have handled things.
For example she wasn't sacked, they just refused to renew her contact, and she she did apologize but the BBC did accept it. It's a lot more complicated story than she was sack from the one show for saying a certain g word. |

Callum could use the little wheel on his mouse to go up read the article "the black tennis player as "golliwog" in front of 12 people." .... 12 mate Your argument doesn't cut it Callum because she wasn't in a bar with her mates etc but was "effectively operating in a workplace". It's against the law to racially vilify in the work place and those around are obligated to report it. Calling them "eavesdroppers" is equally monstrous and hilarious.... at home mate you can talk all the sh*t you want, at work...sorry champ you'll get the sack....so go play with your golliwog toys hehe ( joking) She deserves to get kicked after "refusing to make a full public apology" ...instead she makes some weasley email that said it was a joke. Infront of 12 people ...!!! wow....some of whom had to be black...she must be retarded. And even if no people in the room were black you don't need to be black to be offended by racism. Doesn't a "joke" or "in jest" imply she has mates.... lol she couldn't possibly. Were the black staff supposed to laugh at this great joke? And in what context is calling a black person a golliwog even in any way funny. Nah she deserved what she got and it's funny that such a stuck up toff who talks like she has marbles in her mouth has so much support here on tibb.... hmmmm can anyone thing what single thing they may have in common?.... I can.. ps ... don't lock this one admin ...we'll be good:angel: |
Some people fight the good fight! Some dont! C'est la vie! |

Same with Brand, he is very liberal so is attacked by papers such as The Daily Mail. But if someone makes a racist remark and is fired or suspended, then the Daily Mail gets all up in arms and takes a "You can't say anything these days!" type of attitude, not realising their own hypocrisy. |

In oz "upper class" is a pejorative term, ie self important people known more for their snivelling smarmy obsequiousness and general befuddlement( omg! Boris Johnson, what a write off). While over there you guys hold them in such high esteem. .... lol they even have a veto over your democracy via the house of lords. |

I am not wishing this. But if Carole was killed then the BBC worker that leaked the Golly story to the Press is at fault. |
Don't think it would happen people get death threats in big brother now a days.. lol.
But yeh if things were to happen it would be mainly the person that leaked its fault as it wouldnt have gone further than the studio. |
