This is about Mothering Sunday which is on 22 March

This is about Mother's Day

Note

Quote:

It is a relatively modern concept, not to be confused with the 16th century celebration of Mothering Sunday.
If you scroll down to here you will see it is on the second Sunday in May which is 10 May this year

ERGO

22 March is Mothering Sunday, not Mother's Day.

My local Sainsbury's has been saying Mothers Day is 22 March which is wrong

Mothers Day is just another name for Mothering Sunday so whether or not it started out as something different its now the same. Dose it really matter? Who really says Mothering Sunday anyway?

It's a point of principle

Mothering Sunday is what we celebrate in the UK

Mother's Day is an American holiday and on a different day

Harry! 09-03-2009 04:22 PM

Happy Mothering Sunday TIBB

I doubt many people actually care whether the UK holiday is referred to as Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day (which, as far as I'm aware, is the more common name for it even if it's not the proper one).

Does it really matter what it's called?

pinkmichk 09-03-2009 05:16 PM

the americans celebrate on their day we do on ours doesnt really matter they are 2 different days in 2 different months personally for me its just another one of hallmarks money making things (same as christmas fathers day valentines day and so on) while yes i send something to my mum and step mum its always a small homemade card and homemade token gift cos i dont need a day to tell them how special they are and how much i love them

Matt08 09-03-2009 05:19 PM

Does it really matter what it is called? The reason behind the day is more important than the actual name.

Ross 09-03-2009 06:17 PM

Well it is a good thing you're not a mother, Sticks. I'd dread to think how you'd react otherwise.
