cannot hear through one ear!

As you may know i have been ill over the past week and now have a terrible cold! Just a minute ago my left ear started feeling heavy and now i can hardly hear anything though it. It is not wax because i have hdygene and clean my ears. Is it just the cold that is doing it to me? It is really getting on my nerves!

Oh dear, Try to go to the doctors as they may help.

Its most likely to do with your cold, it still could be wax. Your body might of created lots of wax quickly, I have lost hearing in one ear loads, and its always to do with wax. It will pop in a bout 2 hours if thats the problem.

Even if you have 'hygeine', wax will still be there because it's natural.

When i say i have not got any wax, i mean, i have not got any build up of wax near the opening of the ear. Thanks for the help!

Omg. Go to the doctor. I read an article about a girl who got a cold and she woke up and couldn't see through one eye and turned blind.

It could just be an ear infection or something. Still. go to the doctors x

I get this about once a year, one morning I wake up and can't hear anything out of one ear. Wax builds down near the ear drum where you can't reach it, and that's what causes the block up. Hygiene doesn't have anything to do with it, some people's bodies just produce more of it.

You can buy Otex ear drops, and put a few drops in every day.. it never does anything for me though, so you have to go see the nurse. It might work for you though, and can't hurt to try. You will feel a bubbling sensation as it dissolves the wax inside your ear.

If that fails the nurse will have a long thin tube that squirts warm water out, and they put that inside your ear and it clears out all the hardened wax. It's a weird feeling and doesn't hurt or anything.

It's quite common I think, it's best to get it sorted by a nurse, as poking around in your inner ear with Q-tips or cotton buds might damage your ear if you put them inside too deep. The ear drum is a sensitive thing
