The Shard, London.

I didn't know where to post this, it's a kinda debate but it's not a serious one..?

A new skyscraper has been planned and work has begun on it on Friday. Once built The Shard will be the biggest skyscraper in Europe and the second biggest in the world being an impressive 1017ft high. It is one of several that have been planned.

But what i was thinking is, Is It Worth It? What Is The Point? But saying that i don't mean i hate the idea of it, infact i would love London to have the second biggest skyscraper in the world, but what do you think?!

Please discuss and share your views! Do you like The Shard?

Pointless waste of money. It's practical to a certain extent, but not to justify the spending.

You said that in another thread, and how is it ugly?

I dont think there is a point really? Unless its going to be used for something remotley useful.. Other than that it does look quite nice i suppose! But for some reason REALLY tall buildings scare me haha

Jack 17-03-2009 10:41 PM

I remember reading about this ages ago when it was still in its conceptual stages. Interesting that they've began construction. It hasn't changed much from the designs I saw. I think it's hideous and looks so out of place on the London skyline.

pinkmichk 17-03-2009 10:45 PM

I do agree.. It is really out of place but it is there for a reason. There was already a tower there.. London Bridge Tower.

Lauren 17-03-2009 10:56 PM

I guess the revenue they get from it being a hotel or renting out the office blocks could... in the long term... pay it off.

Princess 17-03-2009 10:59 PM

In that video London looks absolutely incredible and it sticks out like a sore thumb. I don't like it.

Sarah. 17-03-2009 11:12 PM

it's ugly and looks so out of place. :/

Novo 17-03-2009 11:18 PM

Apparently this is HELPING the recession. I still dunno how that adds up. This and 4 other buildings should be completed by 2014

Scarlett. 17-03-2009 11:50 PM

It'd help if it was completed now...but its going to be finished when were way out of the recession, I suppose it will still bring in money...and construction jobs

30stone 17-03-2009 11:57 PM

arista 18-03-2009 08:21 AM

It's being made in London which is perfect for attraction and income. It's the capital city, so there's always going to be pointless and weird things being done to make the city better. 2012 is approaching fastt.

Sam! 18-03-2009 03:54 PM

bronaaaa 18-03-2009 03:55 PM

It's looks a bit silly in that video..It would look better if the London skyline was taller imo

Firewire 18-03-2009 03:58 PM

It looks cool. Although it is a funny shape.

But it can be nowhere near as weird as the Gherkin.
