http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/...movies_200.jpg An advert for the DVD release of Angelina Jolie action film Wanted has been banned for glamorising violence. The ad sees her firing a bullet towards the camera and kissing co-star James McAvoy, who also has a gun, while review quotes are shown describing the film as "blazingly sexy". A voice-over also calls the film "the coolest movie of the year". The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that the the advert gave the impression "that using guns was sexy and glamorous" adding, "We concluded the ad could be seen to condone violence by glorifying or glamorising the use of guns". The industry watchdog, which received just one complaint about the ad, concluded that it mustn't be broadcast again in its current form even if it was aired when young children were unlikely to be watching, Universal Pictures' response appeared to centre on the fact that the film had a female star: "Some people did not like to see a woman in a strong lead role," their spokesperson said. The distributor also said the phrase "coolest movie of the year" had been used in other adverts that featured guns. |
