London Tower To House 100,000 People

This Is Scary. If This goes ahead then i will move out of london. AND I LOVE LONDON. This is a terrorists DREAM. Might as well put a target on the top!!

Quote:

London needs to find room to house 100,000 more people by 2016. One solution is this thing, a massive 5,000-foot tall tower (must see picture of the whole thing after the jump) design by the Populararchitecture firm. Reminds me of the plans for Japan's massive building, but this one is less pyramidal and more phallical.

The tower, which at this point remains simply a novel idea, would take up little actual ground space and run like a proper democracy. It is literally broken up into municipal areas--the "neighborhood" is a singe floor of 600; the village is 20 floors and houses 6,000. There are also three super-districts that house 33,000 people each.
Elected reps serve in a local government and have regular meetings to decide what to do with common areas, which would include an ice skating rink, a botanical garden, an open-air theater, and tennis courts.

****, did that just say tennis courts? Sold! How soon can I sign a lease?

Make sure to hit the jump to see the ridiculously tall tower in full effect.

What the feck o.o

John. 29-03-2009 12:16 AM

umm and the twin towers were tall? do i need to remind you what happened to them?

it would collapse under it's own weight!!:yuk:

30stone 29-03-2009 12:17 AM

Guarantee that wont happen its too big.

Are they stupid?? Thats twice the size of the burj dubai, currently the worlds tallest building.

Will not happen at all.

Looks quality, but it would be so out of place it if were, but it wont lol.

30stone 29-03-2009 12:18 AM

Be near on impossible to keep it stable .

Loukas 29-03-2009 12:25 AM

its a nice idea it's just too *******ing huge!

JOSHUAH! 29-03-2009 12:25 AM

Its size is an issue.
I'm sure I heard before London could never have a very tall skyscraper because the land is very soft and not as deep as in Dubai, New York, and it simply couldn't hold a 5,000ft building.

Dubai has already announced a building 5,000ft+ and it looks a lot better than this 'London Tower'

here is another project by the Japanese, Sky City 1000

just look at the difference between londons tower and Japan's. Japan's actually look believable, London's just looks farcical.:conf2::shrug:

John. 29-03-2009 12:54 AM

just thought, i can see it being called Cheese Block Tower, or something like that?

MrGaryy 29-03-2009 02:04 AM

Yeah thats what I thought too JD.

Shaun 29-03-2009 02:11 AM

That is the ugliest effing [strike]skirt[/strike] building I've ever seen.

It's a nice idea, but that is ridiculously tall - how the hell do they even get up that high?

30stone 29-03-2009 02:27 AM

I actually like the looks but its overkill. its too big.

They would be able to keep getting higher. Like if they can build 3000ft buildings they will do 5000 to just the footings and that would have to be huge it will make london massively busy with constant construction workers and trucks. for japan maybe but london they would never make it.

Cost billions upon billions to we dont exactly have that money in current climate.

I like the idea but it wont happen.

ILoveTRW 29-03-2009 02:32 AM

I think its a great idea and people who are saying it looks too big, yes it looks big compared to the current london but there will be other tall buildings by the time it is built so it won't look out of place.

Shaun 29-03-2009 03:04 AM

"There will be other tall buildings" - like? Show me some that are in the pipeline.

It's an eyesore. When you look at some of the already amazing London skyline - the Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral, Canary Wharf...and then plop a great piece of cheese in the middle, it's hideous.

Ahh.. But remember.

A) It's a vision. It probably will not be built.

B) London's Skyline is going to change DRAMATICLY in the next 5 years anyway!

But i agree with you. Cheese tower.. NOT GOOD.

Harry! 29-03-2009 08:49 AM

The tower is a waste of space and money.

Loukas 29-03-2009 09:30 PM

It's not a waste of space!!! WTF. It's housing 100,000 people! However i think it's ugly, way to big, very out of place and a terrorists dream.

Ruth*Star 29-03-2009 09:37 PM

Ugh That thing is ugly, who'd want to live in a giant cheese?

Kornetto 29-03-2009 10:10 PM

It looks funny :bouncy:

Fom 29-03-2009 10:16 PM

People would be living in japans while it is still being built, as it would take so long to build.
