I do it in College, involves alot of work but if you like filming, editing and things like that then you should like it.

ILoveTRW 04-04-2009 02:49 PM

I did it and it was a waste of time tbh

Tom4784 04-04-2009 03:25 PM

I do a Media Film and Television national BTEC. There's a lot of work involved, plenty of written and practical work, there's a lot of group work too so you need to be able to work in a team well. It's a good but challenging course.

I'm doing it at GCSE, only our English class do it because we're in top and we do English in 1 year and Media around it..

So far we have analyzed magazine covers, made news shows (wrote scripts and stuff) and looked at what attracts what age group :)

I love it.. but loads of my friends moan when we have to do it xD

Tom 04-04-2009 03:47 PM

Its a waste of time and a qualification that is looked at as a complete joke

its so easy

Harry! 04-04-2009 06:34 PM

No sorry. I did not like the look of it when I was picking my options, That is not my kinda thing making advarts and editing video clips for TV.

Tom 04-04-2009 06:38 PM

Oh and if you're after a job in the media a qualification in media will make no difference and someone who did law instead could just as easily get it

SiaSiaSia 04-04-2009 07:04 PM

They don't even offer it at our school
It's one of the most awful qualifications you could do (I don't mean to offend anyone) but yeah, what Tom said.

I did it at GCSE and A Level and both courses were pretty much identical as well

Thats how easy it is

Thanks Guys for all your help!! it really has enlightened me??

GhettoSuperstar 05-04-2009 12:02 PM

I hated it. But the main reason was because my teacher was a feckin ho. She ruined it.

I'm sure if you have loads of confidence to be expressive and creative then its for you but there were people in my class that weren't and they never enjoyed it - for that reason. It's all about creativity and not being shy.

I'll be starting in September in college.

Christina 05-04-2009 12:17 PM

Ahh yeh i may have to take it in college this year too because the courses i wanted to do clash!

Fom 05-04-2009 12:26 PM

Media studies is a load of rubbish!

Tom4784 05-04-2009 01:02 PM

Media A level is pretty ridiculous, if you want a real media qualification go for a BTEC. I've filled three folders of paperwork on my FMP alone. It's tough but I like it. Like Doug said, you need a bit of confidence since you work with other people a lot and plus you need to co-ordinate actors and such.

That being said though, it's good for confidence building. If you're serious about it, look for a college that specialises in it or a college with a good media department as some colleges are shocking for it. Luckily my college is rather excellent for it.

If you have any interest in film or TV I'd say go for it, it's very interesting.

I did it for GCSE and AS level. the GCSE is pretty easy its just magazine analysisng really and a few trailers. The AS level is more intresting and i would have carried on to A level if i could but i did the GCSE when I was talking my AS levels

Everyones worrying me with the negativity about it lol

and its going to be weird because im going to be in a college with people ive never seen before, but thats better.... i want to start fresh and make new friends. Only 1 of my friends is coming over to the college... I think doing team work activities with new people will be much more interesting then with people you have known for ages. Everyone is staying at my schools sixth form.

You'll be doing a lot more theory based work sicne you have exams. You should do around 3 pieces of important practical work. That's what my form tutor said anyway when he was talking about A Levels. I hope you enjoy it, Media's good fun.
