Parkinson slams Goody
http://uk.tv.yahoo.com/blog/article/138886/
http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/...on2_pa_200.jpg Sir Michael Parkinson has launched a tirade against Jade Goody. The veteran broadcaster told the latest issue of Radio Times that the late reality TV star represented "all that is paltry and wretched about Britain." He said: "Jade Goody has her own place in the history of television and, while it's significant, it's nothing to be proud of. Her death is as sad as the death of any young person, but it's not the passing of a martyr or a saint or, God help us, Princess Di. "When we clear the media smoke screen from around her death, what we're left with is a woman who came to represent all that's paltry and wretched about Britain today. "She was brought up on a sink estate, as a child came to know drugs and crime, was barely educated, ignorant and puerile. Then she was projected to celebrity by Big Brother and became a media chattel to be exploited til the day she died." His comments come just days after Jade Goody was laid to rest following a funeral that drew comparisons with that of Princess Diana. Thousands of mourners lined the streets and threw flowers as the hearse made its way to the service in Buckhurst on Saturday. |
What an insensitive, jealous old prick.

I agree with him.
I'm gonna get screamed at for it but it's my opinion so I don't care. |

I think he's comments were taken out of context, it sounds like he was slamming the media coverage and the sadness of her early life, he says her death was as tragic as any young person passing. Read between the lines people.
If you were to listen to everything he said he probably didn't slam Jade much at all it's just the article has been written in such a way that creates a story. But we'll never know that sicne we only got the snippets which paints him as the antagonist of the story. |
Ahem Parkinson your 100% correct
Am glad he has the balls to actually Voice His opinion |
He's slamming British celebrity culture more than her, per se.
But he's spot on. |
i agree with him too

I don't think he's slamming Goody, he's moreso slamming the celeb-culture we hold in Britain.
One thing I don't like, is his pompous nature though. The way he starts his rant as "She was brought up on a sink estate, as a child came to know drugs and crime, was barely educated" - this is hardly a negative portrayal of someone, it's unfortunate for her - but this in itself doesn't make her a bad person. |
sink estate barely educated don't make you all that is paltry and wretched about Britain. What made him so special?

He is quoted as saying, “I am honoured to be offered the chancellorship at Nottingham Trent University. In television I have always worked with young, ambitious people and I am keen to be involved in this university which helps to realise the aspirations of the young. It will also give me an opportunity to see what I missed!” |

I agree with him.
Many people die of cancer and their names aren't all over the papers. And I certainly don't think she should be compared to Princess Diana!!!! |
