Mars - [It\'s a hoax - sorry guys - blame the volvic]

Edit: It's a hoax, and I'm the silly fecker who fell for it.. :(

Mrluvaluva 30-04-2009 10:03 PM

I have made a note. That is two weeks after my birthday (less one day). Looks cool.

lily. 30-04-2009 10:05 PM

I know. I thought it was pretty cool..

Even if it's cloudy for the whole of August here, there's guna be footage from all over the world, so wherever there's clear skies, we'll be able to see the pics/videos from there.

God Bless the Internet! LoL

Sticks will like this. He probably already knows though, cuz he's well into this stuff.

GhettoSuperstar 30-04-2009 10:06 PM

Will he have his big one out? You know......his telescope?

lily. 30-04-2009 10:13 PM

:nono: Barry. It's not the size of the telescope, it's having the proper technique to use it.

Twilight 30-04-2009 10:24 PM

Wow

John. 30-04-2009 10:24 PM

it;s a hoax... you do all realize...

YES. mars will come close but not enough to be as big as the moon...

The maximum angular diameter of mars is 25 seconds of arc.

The maximum angular diameter of the moon is 34.1 minutes of arc or 2046 seconds of arc.

So the full moon is 82 times larger than mars.

Not so much a hoax as people getting the wrong end of the stick or some one possibly having a laugh which has got out of hand

See also here where there are other links about this non-story.

lily. 01-05-2009 08:05 AM

I wish you'd been here earlier Sticks. lol

Note to self: In future run all astronomy related news past Sticks before posting and making complete tw@t of self. :laugh2:

Ninastar 01-05-2009 11:29 AM

BAHA I particularly liked your "Sticks will like this" comment. As if you were giving him exclusive news.

Awhh sorry Linda - this is usually the stuff I fall for - so I feel the need to mock.

it stems from 2003 when mars was actually rather large!

the email just comes round every year again... and more that likely will do until 2287 or something like that when mars is really really close!
