\'Family Guy\' movie in early stages

Quote:

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has revealed that 20th Century Fox are "in the early stages" of turning the animated TV comedy into a feature film.

Speaking to Wired, MacFarlane admitted that he already has a story idea for the big screen spinoff.

"We want to do it," he said. "Fox wants it. We know what we want to do with it. It's just a question of finding the time. That's why The Simpsons took so many years to do theirs. It wasn't because they didn't know what they wanted to do with it. They just couldn’t fit it into the schedule."

MacFarlane added that the workload for an animated show is "twice as much as you have to do for live-action".

"We're finding time where we can," he said. "We're in the early stages right now."

Wasn't Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story supposed to be their film?

...that it was straight to DVD and later just aired as episodes?

Looking forward to it, hopefully they will get it right instead of being a disaster like The Simpsons Movie

No Rory I think they just turned 3 episodes into one because the season was too long and so they aired it as a season finale.

Nahh, I remember it being advertised as the Family Guy Movie here in the States.

"Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story is a direct-to-DVD animated film set in Family Guy's fictional universe. Released on September 27, 2005, the movie's main plot point concerns Stewie Griffin trying to find his real father."

but

"FOX aired the edited and separated versions of the three segments on May 21, 2006. It also had several scenes cut out, new scenes put in and other scenes altered to make it more appropriate for broadcast on American television."

which kind of pissed me off since I bought the DVD.

You know, insults aren't allowed.

and straight-to-DVD movies still count as movies.

Firewire 06-05-2009 09:24 PM

I have never seen 1 full episode of Family Guy.

We still all count "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" as a movie. A straight-to-DVD movie. If it's not a movie, then what is it?

O-M-G. Tell me you did not just diss the Rugrats movie?!?!?

andyman 06-05-2009 09:50 PM

Is In The Night Garden out on dvd?

Tom4784 06-05-2009 09:51 PM

As a media student of 3 years I can officially confirm that Straight to DVD films ARE films it's just that they are distributed to DVD instead of premiering in Cinemas.

They do it ussually because the film might not find a cinema audience (It could be too arty or differen) There isn't a big enough budget to carry a cinema release (Family Guy and Futurama falls into this catagory) and the third most common reason, the film is sh*t (Examples of this includes any American Pie after the 3rd and I Will Always Remember What You Did Last Summer).

I'd be interested to see a Family Guy film, Stewie's untold story was delightful. I hope they try to avoid making it like an extended episode for the cinema release though. Not saying that an Extended episode wouldn't be bad, look at the Futurama films they're excellent.

Although judging from everyone's thoughts about it i'm a little scared to say but I quite liked the Simpsons Movie....
