Sam Sparro: One Hit Wonder?

Is Sam Sparro a modern day one hit wonder: I mean, Black and Gold was a huge hit and got huge airplay and then he released 21st Century Life in summer 2008 and it just failed to recieve any attention (one sec,) just checked Wikipedia and it peaked at #44 on the UK Singles Chart. Pocket recieved a small release & failed to chart.

Is he a one hit wonder? Regardless, I love him.

no offence, darrenn. ;)

Yes, but I don't think just having one hit makes a difference t how good he is as an artist.

MrGaryy 11-05-2009 05:16 PM

I love him and I think it's probably unfair to judge whether or not he is until he releases his new material.

Yeah, I know.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T.

He's BETTER than a one hit wonder. He's extremely talented vocally and musically and deserves so much more success than he got. Yes, '21st Century Life' didn't perform as well as 'Black & Gold' but that's a completely different vibe and was more like the rest of his album, which is mostly disco/funk. 'Pocket' was only released in Australia because he was ill and unable to promote but gave us a 'Gypsy Woman' cover b-side.
The only thing I was gutted about was not re-releasing. I wish I had 'Deep Down And Deep' and 'No End In Sight' on my album rather than begging someone on last.fm to send me them, along with GW.

He's taking time to work on his second album atm, producing and writing in LA so he's defo gonna be back, no question about it.

You may run when Darenn sees this thread, LOL.
I hope he isn't a OHW, because he is very talented as a singer and writer. I don't understand why 21st Century Life didn't do better, I loved that song!
Hopefully, he will come back with a vengeance with some good new material. :D
EDIT: Too late! :joker:

Perhaps if he made a better debut album then things would be different.

The album was criticised heavily by critics. I didn't like it, wasn't great by any means.

Lmao I knew Daren would have already replied.

I was given quite good reviews from critics.

I think it depends on his second album sales. Loads of artists don't depend on singles sales but album sales. Having a single fail is no sign of a one hit wonder, when's the last time Bob Dylan's been in the top 10 of the singles chart but he's still been number 1 for 2 weeks on the album chart.

Singles are a mainstream type of thing and are not complete signs of success.

Yeah I agree with you on that look at Britney, just about in the top 20 this week.
