Is the 10th anniversary this year or next year?

Most people are saying it's this year, but there's other people saying it's next year.

Which one is it?

Lewis. 13-05-2009 05:36 PM

Next year is the tenth anniversary, this year is the tenth series

So why have Channel 4 spokespeople said it's the tenth anniversary this year?

MR.K! 13-05-2009 05:38 PM

because this is the tenth BB so its the tenth birthday

ILoveTRW 13-05-2009 05:39 PM

But BB will techincally be 10 years old next year as it started in 2000.

Suppose you were born in 1980. You would be 10 years old in 1990, not 1989.

Jack_ 13-05-2009 05:49 PM

This year is the 10th Anniversary, as President said above it's the 10th year because you also have to include BB1 (2000).
When people count on their fingers they start at 1, not 0, which is why most people get confused.

Count from 2000 to 2009, and you'll get 10.

Yes, but count anniversaries from 2000 to 2009 and you get 9. If you got married in 2000 you would be married for 9 years this year, not 10.

So is BB 10 this year or next year in your opinion?

Barbie 13-05-2009 06:00 PM

It depends on whether you see it as a year as in a series or a year as in from launch year to now

personally i would say 10 because of preparation for series one.. i would say that counts enough to say the series has been the produce of a years work and so it is 10 years, hope that made sense! lol

i think its the 10th series but its 9 years old right now and still will be on launch night if that makes sense?? Although if they want to pull all stops out and celebrate the tenth anniversary this year with a big shabang then I think it can only be a good thing :)

Ahh, I see what you mean now!

Well then technically, the actual 10th Anniversary of when BB began is next year, but the 10th series of the show is this year. In my opinion I count this years show as the 10th anniversary, but in reality it's next year.

thisisme2008 13-05-2009 07:49 PM

But this will be the tenth year in which big brother has been on our screens, but it is not the tenth anniversary. It is the ninth anniversary this year, because technically the first anniversary is a year after the first time, so 2001 was the first anniversary and therefore 2009 is the ninth.

Lockie 13-05-2009 07:52 PM

The answer is: who cares. This is the TENTH Big Brother, and should still be celebrated as so.

Lewis. 13-05-2009 07:57 PM

This is the Tenth series, but not the tenth anniversary

2000 - Series 1
2001 - Series 2
2002 - Series 3
2003 - Series 4
2004 - Series 5
2005 - Series 6
2006 - Series 7
2007 - Series 8
2008 - Series 9
2009 - Series 10

2010 is the tenth anniversary, because big brother started on series 1, not series 0

When someone is born, they start at the age Zero and are 0 for a year, which is why the dates all add up, but BB started on series 1

bbcanada 13-05-2009 07:58 PM

Ah, I fully agree with Lockie.
(:

MichaelCracker 13-05-2009 08:02 PM

No... it is the 10th Aniversary TECHINCALLY
2 Reasons
10th all round as the first one was in 1999
and the 10th for us as it is the tenth series

Matt 13-05-2009 08:07 PM

Techincally Big Brother's 10th birthday is next year, but it's the tenth series this year. Being honest though, I'm not that bothered if they wish to call this year's series the 'tenth anniversary'.

Then again, you could look at it this way - BB is ten years old globally this year since it began in the Netherlands in 1999.

Benji 14-05-2009 06:52 PM

Ive never thought of this.

I presume this is erm......The Tenth Series and Its in its Tenth Year so maybe its this year! :D

Also, they have Special Anniversary Shows that look at the previous ten years so maybe..

Brekkie 14-05-2009 07:07 PM

Amazing how many people around here can't count to ten.

No I would count 2000 as 1... therefore it is 10 years. It has been around for 10 years.

BIG-BRO-FAN 14-05-2009 07:14 PM

This IS the tenth series, end of.

Fat.Rat 14-05-2009 07:15 PM
