exclusive: big brother runner up mikey wants to be an MP
 

BIG BROTHER star Mikey Hughes yesterday revealed his plans to swap the BB house for the House of Commons.

The BB9 runner-up says he will stand in ex-Speaker Michael Martin's Glasgow North East seat as an independent candidate.

Mikey, 34, believes he has got what it takes to replace Martin, who was forced to quit over the MPs' expenses scandal.

The Insight Radio DJ, who went blind aged 23, said: "Coming runner-up in Big Brother shows I can pull in the public vote.

"I want to save the schools, clean up the area and do something about unemployment - and I wouldn't dupe voters about my expenses."


Mikey, from Kilwinning, Ayrshire, was the first blind person on Big Brother.

He says he has the looks to be a great politician.

He added: "I was voted the ugliest BB contestant ever on a fan forum, which should bode well for me on the campaign trail as George Galloway once described politics as the celebrity for the ugly."


The eccentric reality TV star also revealed he has been asked to be fellow BB contestant Mario Marconi's best man when he weds Lisa Appleton.

Mikey said: "I acted as Mario's best man when BB staged his fake wedding to Steph. Now I get to do it again and I'm going to wear a kilt."


This year's BB starts on Thursday and Mikey revealed: "I've heard there might be a transvestite going in as well as someone with a glass eye."
