Is it rude to ask someone if they are gay??
 

Ok today at school my and my friends wwere wating for the bell to go and this random boy from the year below us comes up and asks my friend in a high pitched voice (all on purpose) if he was gay. I know it may sound really sad but i was SO angry. I really was. I acually felt my fist lift up as if I was about to punch him. I don't even know why. I guess it was probably cause he just came up to us out of no where and acted totally out of place.

I mean I know I have wanted to ask people if they were gay before but I would act like such a dick about it!!
Seriously some people in the world!!! GRRR!!

I don't think so.

It's fine to ask if somebody's gay in a serious, non mocking way (maybe slightly annoying - in a 'its non of your business way), but if they're doing it to mock you or take the piss, then it makes me angry.
Why does it matter anyway? I would never ask anybody, doesn't make a difference to me, sexuality is such a tiny part of character.

No, unless it is meant in a mocking way. Just dont say it to some probably closet homosexual chav who will bottle you in the face for it. Better to ask someone than speculate behind their backs.

Its better asking people. i mean people just assume and talk about it behind your back. i apperciate much more when people come up and ask me instead of just talking and asking other people.

It depends how they ask. If they're mocking then yeah it's rude,if someone is wondering I wouldn't say it was rude.

It depends. People have asked me in real life but I never deny it, I just slyly throw them off.

I hate it when someone you don't know adds you on MSN or something and its the first thing they ask.

If they know the person then no its not rude but if they don't know the person it is rude.
Personally I probably wouldn't ask somebody even if I knew them well, its upto them to tell me when they feel comfortable to

I think it depends ..........

If you're really extrovert then the chances are they're pretty comfortable with being straight so that kind of person would laugh it off

If you're really introvert then you still might be comfortable but not as comfortable- and that kind of person could take it to heart and start evaluating themselves and getting self conscious ... leading to a lower self esteem

If you're closeted noone should force you out or make you feel even worse

If its mockery then its not on

If you actually are openly gay and its said in a more curious way than mocking way then I think its fine

So as more are negative, I think yes, it is rude. There is a line between gay and how camp you can be ... and some people confuse the two. That really annoys me

OMG that annoys the hell out of me. and people are always asking me if im gay..i just have to live with people asking me lol it does get annoying after a while..the mocking i mean. when i'm not even gay ha

Hehe I guess so. and yeh I know what you mean tom. People ask me if he is gay. I mean I have known him for 4 years and he only just told me like 2 weeks ago. x
