Stentionhouse has disappeared from YouTube today. :-(

One of the biggest YouTube uploaders was part of an online campaign to boycott Big Brother 10 and now his account has apparently been closed, despite not having posted any new BB footage, which he has not done for nearly a year now because of YouTube moderators breathing down his neck.

I'm very angry about this. Is Channel 4 responsible?

andybigbro 06-06-2009 09:24 PM

Awwk, He had good Big Brother videos.

BB_Eye 06-06-2009 09:57 PM

Does anyone have any info on what happened and why? I understand Sten is a member of TiBB. Maybe he's around?

Lockie 07-06-2009 09:47 AM

He deleted his own account, unfortunately, which truly is a shame. He was the reason I watched past Big Brothers, and now, I don't know how I can watch em anymore :/. If someone can help on the topic, it'd be appreciated. I did ask him if he could possibly put a few seasons up for download, and if he does, I may put them on DailyMotion.

*dies*

I was halfway through BB6 :(

geoking66 14-06-2009 02:52 AM

BB6 is fully uploaded from other users, don't worry. But I'm quite sad at this as well, a lot of people watched his videos, kind of selfish in my opinion.

dennissabre 14-06-2009 02:57 AM

Big deal

Stentionhouse 17-06-2009 07:14 AM

Only just seen this as I mostly just read the BB10 board.

Channel 4 blocked all the vids about a year ago. But overseas viewers could still see them, and UK viewers could too using a proxy or anonymizer.

But about a month ago YT started blocking some of the vids to all parts of the world (but not removing them, inexplicably). Then, just before BB10 launched, C4 decided to go on another offensive, getting all the channels they could find with their content removed. I took my two (stentionhaus and extentionhouse) down so as not to give the buggers the satisfaction of getting them canned.

Apologies to anyone who was watching stuff on either channel. I bloody hate C4

The BB channel would have been gone within a week even if I hadn't taken it down.

I uploaded a total of 13,000 BB vids to YouTube - my original stentionhouse channel was fried by the makers of Pete's PA and had 8000 vids on it. I spent about two and a half years uploading to YT more or less constantly.

Matt08 17-06-2009 10:50 AM

Why don't you upload them all to Daily Motion?

Because it would take about 18 months non-stop uploading and C4 would probably get them fried anyway.

C4 are just pathetic.

Recent reports about the whole Susan Boyle thing showed that when copyrighted content is uploaded, YouTube will pay a small fee to the copyright holder for all content, not just that uploaded officially, so leaving clips uploaded by fans could bring in a stream of revenue without them having to do anything.

They just don't get what they're doing. When they left things alone clips spread around YouTube and around the net, and that results in interest being maintained and was reflected in the ratings for the main show.

This year they take a hardline on it, and along with the axing of the live feed they've just completely killed off a key source of viewers - the YouTube generation.

P.S. 4oD are adding thousands of hours of archive programming next month, all for free, but there has been no indication that Big Brother will be amongst them (indeed there is no indication it won't be either).

If it's available officially they have some sort of argument, but the majority of what Stentionhouse uploaded was archive materially not available to buy, and not repeated by any channel. And even if it was available in the UK, it wouldn't be in the rest of the world.

Hmm, not really though. Only a few forum fans really like watching back series' etc so doesn't really sustain interest in the bigger picture and fans from other countries who can still see it anyway. The videos haven't been removed, just blocked to UK viewers, so they still might be getting money for copyright anyway.

Only a small part of that is due to the live feed though. That point becomes a blatant fact when you factor in that more people have turned off BB than ever watched Live Feed anyway.

They lost the million overnight as well. CBB didn't lose most of its audience until 2 weeks in which shows it isn't all down to live feed

There was a problem on launch night

C4 have removed loads now - not just blocked stuff. My channel was on the list to be fried, YouTube sent me a message informing me.

You'd be surprised how many people liked to re-watch old series. A lot had missed earlier ones and watched them for the first time on YT. Others just used to dip in to see classic moments. With these new overlay ads YT have brought in, C4 could have made a nice bit of wedge if they'd left BBUK stuff alone. Instead they've alienated half of their viewers

Stentionhouse 20-06-2009 12:16 PM

The big difference between CBB and the regular series is that we know the celebs already. People like Terry Christian and Ulrika were very familiar to us. There was also afternoon LF.

With total strangers and no daytime feed, it's impossible to get to know them and viewers quickly become frustrated. As mentioned, the launch was poor. Worse than poor - it was utterly dreadful and must have persuaded a lot of people not to bother with BB10.

Around half a million people used to watch the LF every day (though not all at the same time, spread over 24 hours). But a lot of folk just used to read the LUT and WHATM threads to keep up to date with what was happening. And the buzz used to spread, word of mouth got others turning on for the h/l shows. That's all gone now.

I can't see BB10 even maintaining 2m viewers for much longer. Once more of the bigger characters inevitably get the boot, 1.5m will be as much as they can hope for...probably less. No amount of stupid twists and gimmicks can make up for no live feed, a pretty weak cast and the total incompetence of Channel 4 and Brighter Pictures.
