Inside the Brother's lair

IT'S going to be the most talked about house in Britain for the next 11 weeks but what's it really like inside. Here LOUISA BARNETT takes a peek around the Big Brother house and checks out what it feels like to be one of the claustrophobic contestants.
NOSILY peeking around what is bound to be the most famous house in the UK this summer, the feeling of entrapment and vulnerability hit me straight away.

If the specially chosen brazen colours aren't enough to upset the contestants, the claustrophobia is bound to hit them immediately.

The impeding mirrors and newly-created transparent walls are just some of the clever ploys Big Brother bosses have used to enforce the message that there's nowhere to hide.

After cameras failed to catch lovebirds Michelle and Stuart's famous romp last year, cunning designers have covered every angle to ensure that in the event of a 're-match', viewers will catch more than a glimpse of a curled toe.

This year, even the kitchen table is transparent – with no draping tablecloth in sight.

And the bedroom has been cleverly designed to ensure maximum love action, with a shortage of beds forcing housemates to get cosy beneath the covers!

As I eagerly bounced up and down on the surprisingly soft beds, even the most reserved of my fellow journalists were getting a little excited.

Red-faced and energised, it was worryingly clear how easy it is to forget where you are.

Regaining my dignity, I was of course looking under every bed and in every drawer in eager anticipation of finding a hidden secret.

I even tried pushing every wall in the vain hope it would lead off into a secret room.

The only sort-of secret room I found, was the all-important diary room – a hub for tears, tantrums, and the occasional confession.

Proudly pushing the button outside, I waited for the green light to flash before stepping through the mirrored zig-zag door for a glimpse of that chair.

But all I found was a bogey-green Office World swivel version that I was assured was not a trendy new idea, merely a stand-in for one that was currently being built at a secret location.

Back in the living room sitting on the bright green block sofas I was frantically scratching every part of my body owing to the itchy, stiff material it is made of.

Expecting to sink into them, I got up with a rash on my legs and a sore bum, quickly to be told by the series producer that 'they are not right for the house and need to be swiftly removed by Friday'.

Comfort was clearly not high on the list of priorities!

Walking around the garden with the wet mud slowly sinking into my boots, I was kindly given some attractive plastic elasticated blue shoe covers.

Not for my protection obviously, but to make sure the cream carpets in the new loft area I went to inspect, was kept squeaky clean.

No doubt, this will quickly change as the housemates get down and dirty in this ultra cosy area, surrounded by cushions and soft carpet.

I was swiftly led into the garden faced with the soon to be infamous outdoor shower and plunge pool – an area for the heated housemates to publicly strip down and cool off.

But I couldn't be tempted, even if I was still a little flushed from my antics in the bedroom.

After spending just a short time in the newly-refurbished Big Brother house, I had a headache that would rival the heaviest hangover.

And if that's what it did to me in just 20 minutes, in 11 weeks time, this new bunch of wannabes are bound to need more than a pain killer!

An insider at the studios said: "The house is unlike any they have ever built before. It's bound to cause a massive stir."

One thing's for sure, I'm glad the nearest I'll get to living with them is from the comfort of my own front room.
