Who here went to Oxford? And who went to a silly university?

I'm afraid i went to a silly university
but it had its advantages because too much education can make you mentally backward. (or whatever he said)

HELLIWONTGO 17-06-2009 01:33 PM

They didn't have any places for a smart, I say a smart Rooster, they said I was to low in the 'pecking' order
Boom Boom !!!

Lauren 17-06-2009 01:34 PM

I didn't go to Oxford, but a top 10 uni yes.

Anyway, a "silly" uni isn't even silly, it's just more vocational which is arguably more useful.

i can tell you went to a silly university

Uni is stupid unless you know what you want to do and are set on it

If you just get a degree because all your mates do then just go into a standard 9-5 like 80% of people do then you're a tw*t.

Marzy 17-06-2009 01:42 PM

I live in Oxford 2 miles away from the university. I didn't attend the uni but my nephew is there. It's certainly in the top 5 best unis in the world. Even President Clintons sent his daughter there.

So old Bill Clinton splashed out to get her there then? lol:xyxwave:

I go to Trinity which is the top college in Ireland. It's got nothing to do with anything though.

Freddie isn't doing Oxford any favours. What did he study?

GiRTh 17-06-2009 02:41 PM

I nearly fell of the chair laughing when Sree came out with that gem. To compare Oxford uni and Hertfordshire uni shows exactly how clueless an idiot Sree actually is. I hope he stays in for a few more weeks cuz without him the show is rather dull.

Marc 17-06-2009 02:42 PM

Cardiff is far from a stupid university Sree *huff!* but I live in Oxford so I must be special

Cody™ 17-06-2009 02:44 PM

lol ...I read that out in Freddie's voice.

Sunny_01 17-06-2009 02:52 PM

Oh wow I went to a UK top 10 university BUT clearly not as clever as Freddie lol he did Oxford!!!

bansheewails 17-06-2009 02:53 PM

Queens in Belfast, me!

GiRTh 17-06-2009 02:54 PM

I went to Leicester Poly. Definitely NOT a top ten uni.

Tom4784 17-06-2009 02:55 PM

I'm undecided about Uni, might go next year. If I do I'll go to Aston or Birmingham though, I could have gone this year but I didn't want to.

I've just looked at the league tables and their both in the 20's out of 114 so that's not bad isn't it?

Cody™ 17-06-2009 03:04 PM

20's is good.

When choosing a Uni, the most important thing is the course and that you know that course is for you. If you can get a good degree for a lesser well established Uni then its better than gettin a third from a top 10 uni IMO.

I did my bachelors at Coventry Uni - Not even in the top 50. But i got a first. Im now doin my masters at Uni of Leicester. Its in the top 15. But what i realised is that gettin a first at Cov opened many doors for me, regardless of the reputation of the Uni.

Unless you know what you want to do with life its pointless going. Otherwise you'll get into debt for nothing and have a degree that is essentially worthless. If you apply for a job unrelated to a degree (which is inevitable if you just go to Uni for the sake of it), the thing employers look at is A Levels, degrees become irrelevant.

I kind of disagree with you there. Any degree you do, there are valuble skills you learn which you do not from doing just A-levels, and thats what can set you apart from other candidates. But yes, I agree that you must have a career direction to get the most out of a degree.

I don't think you need Irish for Trinity anymore. It depends o what you want to study!
