I'm on the seventh episode so I'm ahead of you Felix  lol
It's really good, but the first episode might be underwhelming to some. I loved it while I was watching it, but then went to thinking it was only OK an hour later. There's no story being set-up in the first episode that will compel you to tune in next week, outside of the romance.
I'm warning you now, ALL of the characters are rather off-beat, and there is a lot of stuff that you need to take on board and accept from the word go- vampires being openly accepted and battling for civil rights, the main lead having the power to read people's thoughts, which leaves you wondering who knows and who doesn't (this issue is cleared up). You might take a while to warm to the characters, but I was one of the few that seemed to love them from the off, and I loved the interplay between them.
I wasn't truly hooked until the cliffhanger in fifth episode, and the whole of the sixth episode was the one that made True Blood one of my favourite TV shows of all time.
Another thing that might put people off is that the main mystery/storyline doesn't become clear until around the third episode, and the first two have no real plot outside the romance.
Which brings me onto my final point- the sex scenes, they are so random and graphic, that if someone walked in on you, it WILL look like you are watching porn. I watch it on my computer and I've got funny looks from my family, when they can hear moaning coming from the headphones and see two people having rough sex on the screen.
Overall, it's a show that's well worth your time, but may take a while before you are hooked, the only thing that keept me watching at first was the relationship and the characters, the story is VERY weak at first. This problem will be worse if you are watching it on TV, because you may be put off turning in for the following week, but trust me, by the sixth/seventh episode you will be hooked, and that is the general consesus among True Blood fans.
The social commentary is good, the post-Katrina location is fresh and different and fits in with the themes and issues, and I love the accent
A plus side is that the season isn't very long- only twelve episodes long. Season Two is also going to be the same length.
