THE family of Big Brother star Noirin Kelly have revealed that her new-found fame has seen them become the focus of cruel racist slurs.

Noirin's mum Jacinta, who originally comes from Kenya, told the Herald that she came across a wall of racist graffiti behind their Cabinteely home while walking her children to school this week.

An upset Jacinta revealed that while most people have been extremely supportive of her daughter's stint in the reality show, a wall behind their home had been covered in racist graffiti.

"That has been really upsetting. There is no doubt that is directed at us because the comments are very clear. Some people think they know who did it but we're not sure.

"I don't mind Noirin kissing whoever but this writing has really upset me. It's just been done over the last few days and I noticed it when I was walking the kids to school. I tried to explain it to them but they were upset, too."

She said that the family had not yet made contact with the county council to clean up the graffiti.

But Jacinta vowed to stay positive about Noirin's experience and said that "most people" had been "very good and very friendly."

Meanwhile, Noirin's new onscreen love dilemma has come as no surprise to her parents.

The pretty Irish athlete is basking in the affections of three of her fellow housemates who have all fallen head-over-heels for her.

The 25-year-old contestant's bubbly personality and confident skills in the kitchen have left Sree, window fitter Marcus, and Angel admitting they have fallen for Noirin.

Jacinta said: "She has always been popular. She's doing really well and I'm very proud of her. She is good with people and that is something I love about Noirin.

"She was always popular even when she was small it was the same thing -- small kids always loved her.

"I'm not going to comment on the people attracted to her in the house but Noirin -- people always fall in love with her, always.

"She's a fantastic cook -- that's what I'm missing most about her. I taught her how to cook but sometimes we fight about who wants to cook -- we both love it.

"I do watch Big Brother some times -- I'm keeping an eye on her -- but last night I didn't watch it."

Noirin never told her family she was entering the popular British series and left home in May after telling them she was going on holiday to the US.

Jacinta said the family was shocked to learn she was instead on Big Brother but described Noirin as a "lucky" girl who always finds success.

Okay, seeing as how I am too lazy to look it up Im going to ask where does she live, and is it near where the Romanian racist attacks recently happened?

It doesn't look too good for Ireland anyway if there has been two newsworthy racist attacks recently. Shame how a few idiots can do damage because of their own prejudices and/or ignorance.

Jayson 01-07-2009 06:16 PM

Racism is a fact of life as is bullying , it happens all over the world, saying it's wrong wont stop it, alas, but it is mainly done by ignorant people looking for a scapegoat !!!
