What have you got against Sampras?

HELLIWONTGO 05-07-2009 05:43 PM

Sampras was a very good tennis player but Federer is now the greatest of all time with an almost unbeatable record!!!

I dont mind Federer, but I used to support Sampras!!!! dont knock him

Im more of a Nadal fan these days

Jen 07-07-2009 09:17 PM

Federer. My favourite player of all time.
Wimbledon 2001, Federerbeat Pete... who knew that match would MAKE his career. Ironically he was put out by Tim Hedman in the quarters... but two years later he went on to win his first wimbledon. A true champion.

Marc 07-07-2009 09:21 PM

Pete Sampras was a legend in his own right. Good lad.

i can't stand federer in his full rigout that he goes on court with. the absolute arrogance of the man......( having a jacket printed with the number 15 on it before he went on court to face roddick!) it was telling that he didn't dress up last year when he faced nadal again. nadal has his number and he's the true champion in my eyes..... he's a gent when he wins and when he loses. federer is a sore loser and always passes comments on others and makes excuses for himself. he really annoys me, sorry

M'kay. If you paid enough attention you would see that Federer is also a gentleman. Sure he is cocky, but you need to be when you have won fifteen grand slams. He is not arrogant, he is everything but. I know I am bias as I am a federer fan, but he is a good champion and does deserve all of his sucess. [/end]

how long is ************* banned for?

setanta 07-07-2009 10:07 PM

i watch tennis all the time. i'm a sport nut. and there's a huge difference between federer and nadal in respect to how they treat their defeats and losses. federer was smiling when he was commiserating roddick on his loss.... compare this with nadals reaction to his victories against a tearful federer in australian open and last years wimbledon. he showed real concern for his defeated blubbing rival- he's an extremely humble man and a real advertisement to how you should behave. federer with the printed jacket? that just takes the biscuit

Marc 07-07-2009 10:08 PM

Federer has amazing talents, both on and off the court. He has won 5 consecutive Stefan Edberg sportsmanship awards as well as 15 grand slams. Don't need to say much else.

setanta 07-07-2009 10:12 PM

i'm not denying federer's talent- i just hate the arrogance of the man and it's easy to be smiling when you're winning. very easy to be given sportsmanship awards when you're at the top. he wasn't sporting when nadal was winning. and the printed jacket last weekend was a real example of his arrogance. i bet you if he had been facing nadal there would not have been a jacket present

Okay. I see what you are saying. But when you win Wimbledon for the sixth time I can imagine it would be very difficult to contain your real emotion.. of course he was smiling he just won Wimbledon and is expected to do an interview with Sue a few minuets later, I do not doubt that his commiserations were sincere... of course they were.. but as humans it is difficult to contain joy when you are full of it. The jacket... customised made by Nike.. every year. He does not go out of his way to be "Arrogant" he wears the clothes that Nike have produced...Nike had faith in him, he doesn't wear the "RF" to say, "here I'm better than you", he wears it as a symbol of his success, to how much he has grown as a player and a person.. quite the opposite to what you are insinuating.

setanta 07-07-2009 10:27 PM

didn't you see how roddick reacted to his comments? saying its easy to say that after already winning 5 before today? and nadal was so humble when he won......and so gracious in defeat the year prior to his victory. he cried in locker room afterwards but wouldn't do it on the tv becuz it was rogers moment. remember roger in australian open? he turned the day into a wake

I'm sorry I need to find the book of me caring.
Roger was known in the juniors for being very angry, he has grown so much and hs learnt how to show his emotions in a positive way, it is endearing when he cries as it shows his love for the sport, the fact that he can be so overwhelmed and not care how people see him is an amazing quality. Your points in my mind aren't valid as Roddick has had his moments, he has been nick named "Angry Roddick" for a reason. He shows his emotions in a negative way, maybe you should be talking to him about arrogance and how to behave in peoples "moments".

setanta 07-07-2009 10:37 PM

nah, he cried cuz he couldn't accept defeat. the man has built his ego up so much over the years that he couldn't accept that someone had come along that could out battle him. total meltdown becuz nadal was too much for him. as for roddick.... his temper is just confined to the court. i have no problem with that. off the court he is intelligent and gracious.

phil the power taylor

setanta 07-07-2009 10:39 PM

phil the power taylor = magic lol. good call

Marc 07-07-2009 10:41 PM

I think more than anything, the realisation for Federer that he was no longer the best in the world must have been quite frustrating and to lose at his favourite tournament of all time and the one that he's had the most success in (equal with US Open) must have frustrated him further. And for the Australian Open.. he cried because of Rod Laver didn't he?

I actually laugh at that.
His press conference after the match was disgraceful in my opinion.. he was arrogant, rude and totally out of order.

setanta 07-07-2009 10:49 PM

sure rod laver is at the all. oh and he's the greatest of them all really. he's won all four grand slams in one year twice over! that's amazing. he would have won even more only for that five year gap. as for federer crying.... sure the writing is on the wall before entering the court- If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same. he can't
