Does anyone else do this? #2

Do you ever listen to music when you're sad, or just plain thinking about things, and listen to the lyrics and then start finding loads of meanings in them that apply to whatever your predicament is?

hannah. 06-07-2009 01:34 AM

yes. ALL the time
if i like a guy all the songs i listen to im like HE SOO THINKS THIS ABOUT ME
hahaha
and i do it with other stuff aswell, and if a song totally doesn't fit the circumstances I can't listen to it

Z 06-07-2009 06:25 AM

Yeah that's a good example, you're sitting there like 'this fits!!' haha!

Lauren 06-07-2009 09:15 AM

Yep, I ALWAYS fit lyrics to my life haha.

YES, all the time. Unwritten especially

I think you sometimes choose songs to fit your mood. So if you are sad for instance, you play songs that tie in with how you feel. I am sure 9/10 times you would pick up on certain lyrics that you could associate with personally in a song. Then you play it over and over again and make yourself depressed. :joker: Not much help really.

I mostly listen to meaningless music when I'm in a good mood, I only pick up on the whole lyrics with meaning thing when I'm wallowing in self pity and notice things .

Jen 06-07-2009 02:48 PM

I have been doing it lately...
Neil Diamond has that effect on me.

Mrluvaluva 06-07-2009 03:08 PM

"Forever in blue jeans" holds such special meanings for me.

Mrluvaluva 06-07-2009 03:12 PM

Haha. I suppose more a la "love on the rocks".

Jen 06-07-2009 03:13 PM

Forever in Blue Jeans is one of my favourite Neil Diamond songs, it is a beautiful song one you get past the MASS amounts of innuendos in it.. LOL

Love on the rocks makes me upset.. D:

Many of the best songwriters refuse to reveal what their lyrics mean with the express intention being to let the listeners draw their own seperate conclusions.

This is why I hate songmeanings.com (Or whatever the site is). Because I hear a song, apply it to myself... then out of interest I go on this site to see the background, and it turns out the lyrics are about something trivial and small lol

I think it is an interesting website most of the time, TBH. However, it's user created content, so you will always get the odd ''BOHEMIAN RAPSODOMY WAS OBVIOUSLY WRITTEN ABOUT POO AND TENNIS'' comment.

Fom 06-07-2009 05:54 PM

When I am sad and worrying about something I make ever song relate to that topic some how haha.

GhettoSuperstar 07-07-2009 07:45 PM

I love when songs remind you of things in your life and then they pull the strings of your heart. Those are the songs I love most. Typically songs with strings or goosebump giving beats i.e. The Veronica's 'Untouched', Freemasons work, Girls Aloud 'Untouchable' and Jonas Brothers 'Tonight'.
