Most common scenario is joint custody. Residence usually goes to the mother but, to be fair, it's very rarely contested... and when it is contested, it'll go to whoever has been the primary carer before separation, unless there are some other circumstances like substance abuse. If the father has been the primary caregiver during the child's life thus far, and contests for them to reside with him, then there's a high chance of that succeeding .
