A Hollyoaks storyline has reportedly saved the life of a fan who was just hours from death.
The hit show aired a plot in which students suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, helping Beth Cordingley to realise that she was being affected in the same way, according to the Daily Express.
The 26-year-old had believed she was suffering from an eye problem until she watched the show, and discovered a leak in her gas fire.
Doctors reportedly told her that she would have died within 24 hours if she had failed to recognise her symptoms.
"The hospital staff told me I was lucky to be alive," Beth said.
Bryan Kirkwood, producer of the Channel 4 soap, said: "Hollyoaks is constantly being recognised for hard-hitting and engaging storylines to which viewers can relate.
"We are delighted this one helped to save a life."
The Hollyoaks storyline saw students getting dizzy, sick and headachy before collapsing, after a botched repair job on their boiler.
