Yeah, it was a different time period for sure. We don't take any chances now. The area around the NSA & Ft Meade, the security detail that we have in airports, how public access is treated near bases now, a lot has changed since 9/11. It probably won't ever be that relaxed ever again which is quite sad... but like arista says, sign of the times...
I'm curious about this myself though, where they came out of. Seattle being "next to no where", there tends to be bases nearby in areas with less population. Not sure how that all works tbh... might have to ask around here.
