Not exactly racist i know, but weird for him to racially categorise it like that,
especially when he'd just been complaining about racism (which is all about racial categorisation).

They both have brown skin. He wasn't categorising anything.
Just as if he'd said "May the best man win!" wouldn't have been sexist.
I think the issue is drawing attention to simple remarks about appearance. We don't do it about hair colour.
Edit - "May the best white win!" wouldn't have been racist either.
