Ricky Tomlinson has revealed he turned down I’m a Celeb – because he fears he’d EAT his jungle campmates.

The Royle Family actor joked he could not control his hunger on the ITV show, where stars are forced to live on rice, beans and insects.

“I turned down Celebrity jungle a couple of times,” says Ricky, 79.

“I don’t want to do that. I think there’s only so much you can do.

“I don’t think you should do anything for the money – you should do it because you want to or you’d enjoy doing it.

"If I went on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and went without food for 24 hours I’d probably eat the other contestants.”

The Scouse star – who found fame in 1982 as Bobby Grant in Channel 4 soap Brookside – hit out at those who go on reality shows looking for fame.

“I think some of the young people make a fool of themselves and let themselves down, and they have to live with that for the rest of their lives.”

The down-to-earth star worked as a plasterer and on building sites before his big break on Brookside.

He later starred with Robbie Coltrane in hit drama Cracker.
