If Akeem "stood up " to Tomasz then people would be calling Akeem miserable & how he can't take a joke etc ,he may even bizarrely get called "homophobic" .
And when he laughs off Tomasz's behavior ,then he's seen as "spineless" or "silly" and how he's letting his girlfriend down.
I don't even know why his girlfriend is being dragged into this, it's not like Akeem is doing anything. He already told Tomasz he has a girlfriend and Tomasz knows he's straight.
