No study should ever be considered conclusive until it HAS been replicated at least once impartially... Surely that's one of the absolute basics? Proving that a study or experiment was able to be recreated was a huge part of the grade when I was at University at least.

I think the major problem we have these days is indeed confirmation bias. People are willing to accept untested findings too easily in the first place, if they fall in line with their preconceptions. Hellz... People are willing to totally ignore findings that HAVE been robustly tested in favour of anecdotal evidence or even just "wot they think", "wot seems likely", if it fits better with their worldview.
