I believe this is a problem with the ignore list.

If you have the option "Would you like the ignored members post to be replaced with a message saying they are ignored?" set to NO in your profile, then the members in your ignore lists' posts are removed instead of replaced.

That causes a problem in multi-page threads, because it removes the posts of the members in your ignore lists, but still keeps the number of pages the same.
