When I was a child, nearly 70 years ago, I was sent home from school with a booklet of distressing photos of children in "poor" countries where famine, poverty, and lack of medical care were serious issues. I was supposed to sell those photos to friends and neighbours for a specified small sum and take the money back to school to be sent off for the charity to help these people. I see the photos here, and images on TV of starving children, and poverty today in these countries. Nothing much has changed in over 70 years. These are not poor countries, some of the richest peple in the world live in them. This problem is the responsibility of their governments who do little or nothing to address the issues. I am not without compassion, and no one can deny this should not be happening, anywhere, but this problem is obviously self-perpetuating and will not be solved unless seriously tackled at the source.
